Ch.14
Sam‘s p.o.v
It’s been a week since we came back home, and I was getting better. I was forced to be in bed (orders from Patrick), but any excuse to be in bed for the entire day without working was fine by me. In the midst of it all, Meagan gave birth to her baby, and Pete was just over the moon. It was a boy, and they named him Saint Lazlo Wentz. This baby is completely adorable. You don’t even know. They decided to give birth to him at home, and let me tell you, Meagan’s screaming was pretty loud.
*Flashback*
I was sitting outside Meagan and Pete’s room, holding Bamboo close to me. The baby was on its way, and Meagan was screaming louder than anything I’ve ever heard. Bronx was sitting next to me, holding on to me tightly.
“Is Meagan going to die?” he asked me.
I smiled and hugged him and kissed his forehead. “No, Bronkie. Meagan is just giving birth to your new baby brother or sister,” I explained to him. “She’ll be fine.” Phoenix joined us and rested her head on my thighs. I pulled her closer and kissed her nose. She whined and licked my face. Meagan then screamed really loud, and the cries of a baby was heard through the closed door.
“It’s a boy!” Pete exclaimed.
I smiled and hugged Bronx. “Sounds like you’re a big brother now, Bronkie,” I said. He smiled and hugged me. The door opened and Mary smiled. “It’s okay, kids. Come see the new baby,” she said. Bronx smiled and ran it. I got up and leaned against the doorframe. Meagan was cradling the new baby, face stained with tears and her hair frazzled, but otherwise okay. Pete gently stroked the baby’s head and kissed the baby’s head. I smiled and wiped off some tears. Meagan looked up and smiled at me.
“Why are you standing over there, Sam? Come meet your new cousin,” she said.
I smiled and shook my head. “I’m good here,” I said. Patrick walked over and took my hand, leading me to the baby. I sat next to Meagan and smiled shyly at the baby. Pete crawled next to Meagan and smiled. The tears on his face was pretty noticeable. I couldn’t blame him.
“Sam, this is your new cousin, Saint,” he said.
I smiled and looked at the baby. “Would you like to hold him?” Meagan asked. I looked at her and the baby nervously. I was never good with kids back at the orphanage, especially babies. I tried to protest, but Meagan smiled at me and carefully placed the baby in my arms. I stared at the newborn infant, and bit my lip. It cried and I gently rocked it.
“Shhhh, it’s okay, I’m here, don’t cry,” I said softly. “Hell or glory, I don’t want anything in between. Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes, and daddy said ‘you gotta show the world the thunder’. Whoa oh, oh, the thunder. Whoa oh, oh, the thunder. Whoa oh, oh, the thunder.”
Saint stopped crying and fell asleep. I whimpered and kissed his forehead. “My name is Samantha, baby Saint. I’m your big cousin. I’m not perfect, and there’s really not much special about me, but I do promise that I’ll love you with all my heart, okay?” I said. Saint must have understood what I said, because he grabbed my finger. I began to cry, but I smiled nonetheless. I kissed his hand and forehead and gently handed him back to Meagan.
“Aw, Sam,” Meagan said, pulling me into a hug. I cried in her shoulder and closed my eyes. “I’m sorry,” I cried. She shushed me and rubbed my back. “There’s nothing to be sorry about, Sam,” she said. Bronx hugged me and Pete ruffled up my hair. We all just sat there in silence, enjoying everyone’s company.
