"bokuto," akaashi said as all the volleyball players lined up on the court, facing the other team. "i need you to tell me what you want me to do during the game."

"what?" bokuto raised a bushy eyebrow, "but wouldn't the other team know what we're doing? and it's even more risky because this is a practice match. there's no audience to cover up our sound."

akaashi glaced at him ; he looked unsure of himself. "you said before that you wanted a setter that understands you."

"did i say that?" bokuto placed a hand on his chin and looked up. "either way that's true. i need a setter who can catch up with me!"

akaashi nodded "i'll try my best."

they were at nekoma's school this time to continue their discontinued practice match.

fukorodani only had one other person qualified for setter but unfortunately, said person wasn't at school due to an 'undecided suspension'.

whatever that meant.

regardless, akaashi didn't even get to go to a practice yet. hence why he was still in the dark on bokuto's likes and skills.

he would rather bokuto tell him than he try to figure it out. after all, the setter is the support. no one can stand if it falls down.

akaashi felt an over wheming pressure as he stepped into his place on the court, he found himself infront of nekoma's setter- the one who had caught his attention.

the nekoma setter's eyes were on bokuto who would be serving first.

"start!"

bokuto launched in the air the ball flying as high as he did and in a crisp movement it fell to nekoma's court with ease.

"hey hey hey!" bokuto shouted and akaashi looked in awe.

his strength, his power, his pure ease.

how was akaashi supposed to catch up with that?

bokuto got another point with the set before nekoma's libero caught the ball.

komi easily received it and as the ball raised up in the air akaashi's eyes gazed onto it.

the lights blinded him for a second before his sight caught the ball again.

it felt crisp to the touch. it was quiet- akaashi couldn't feel the heat of the other's around him.

this feeling was familiar.

"left! set left!" an outside voice screamed.

as if on queue the balls escaped akaashi's hands unsteadily.

he messed up.

he knew he messed up.

it wasn't to high or too low but it wasn't timed right.

he would miss, bokuto would miss because of akaashi but-

the ball fell to the ground.

akaashi couldn't tell if it was on his court or the others.

the next thing he heard was:

"akaashi!" bokuto beamed, raising both hands expectantly for a high five. "that was perfect! just keep doing that!"

akaashi's eyes widened. "okay." he hit bokuto's waiting hands with all five fingers.

"side shot!"

"akaashi! i'm going to do a quick!"

"i want to try a sharp shot to the left!"

"to the right!"

"go higher for this one!"

setter dump.

akaashi did a setter dump and that ended the game 24-25.

nekoma seemed flabbergasted at the fact they lost- knowing every move fukorodani was going to make.

they were close, but not enough.

akaashi found himself flabbergasted as well.

"hey hey hey! we did it!" bokuto smiled at akaashi.

"i know..." akaashi mumbled under his breath.

it was unconcieveable.

how did they win?

was it speed? focus? bokuto's wild attitude?

"i can't believe it akaashi!" komi climbed up onto his back. "who knew you were holding out on us all this time?"

tatkashi nodded and gave a soft smile. "you were very good for your first time playing here akaashi."

"we should get popsicles after this! in celebration!" bokuto jumped readily.

akaashi huffed a small sigh of relief and softly smiled into his hands.

"yes, let's do that."

"oi, pass me my water bottle please?" a voice projected, making akaashi shiver.

it was the same words fujiguro said before-

"kuroo leave akaashi alone." komi got off akaashi's back.

"relax, i was just here to congratulate him." kuroo shrugged. it was nekoma's ace.

"you were good on court." kuroo smiled, making his eyes close. "you aren't as much of a pushover as i thought."

akaashi raised an eyebrow.

"what kind of compliment is that?" tatkashi said dryly, his face in disgust.

"i think that's a good compliment. you never want to be a push over on court." bokuto agreed with his friend.

"you see boku gets me." kuroo cockily grinned. "but next time i'll demolish you."

kuroo looked straight at akaashi when he said that. dark beady eyes penetrating through akaashi's gaze.

"later!" kuroo's mood did a full 180 and he cheerfully waved goodbye to the rest of the team members- leaving to run next to nekoma's setter.

"don't be intimidated by him." tatkashi rolled his eyes "he just wants to make a scary impression because he can't fight."

"oh." akaashi nodded.

"his ass got whooped last time poru got a hold of him." komi added on. akaashi didn't know who that was but he assumed he would know later.

"can we go get popsicles now?" bokuto wallowed, his mood swinging drastically from before.

"bokuto's weakness #1, popsicles." akaashi mumbled to himself.

you put your hands up, trapping your view of akaashi into a frame of your fingers.

"I don't like him hina."

then you turned it to her sickenly sweet smile.

"it's a horrible view." you nonchalantly said. your mouth was still dry from the sour feeling of seeing him walk on the court draped in a name that was unrightfully his.

she still smiled and you rolled your eyes.
