When I woke up, my head felt like it was being beaten with frying pans. Oh; no that was just Trevor.
“WAKE UP! WAKEY, WAKEY! IT’S TIME TO GET UP!” Trevor shouted with two pots clanging against each other. I tried to wrap my pillow around my face, maybe to suffocate myself, but he was too quick and swiped it.
“Knock it off!” I hissed.
“Don’t snap at me! If you don’t get up in ten sounds, I will personally pick out your outfit!”
My eyes snapped open. I gave him a terrible look. “You wouldn’t dare.”
Apparently, he would, because before dashing to the closet, he grabbed my foot and yanked me out of bed. I yelped when my butt made contact with the carpet, and look up to see him laughing. “You bastard!”
He made a leap to my closet, which I followed close in pursuit. When I came in, he was stroking an imaginary beard, and turned to me with the gayest accent “What shall we pick for you, darling? A little bit of neon pink? Or stripes? No, no! Both!”
“Very funny!” I said with a smirk. I let my fingers graze the hangers, and turned back to him. “Are you going to go? Or would you like to stay to watch me change?”
He shrugged. “Would you really like me to answer that?”
I frowned. “Out.” I pointed, and he dragged his feet, muttering “fine.” After he was gone, I giggled to myself; boys were all the same.
There really wasn’t much of a choice; another T-shirt and some more dark jeans. My blonde hair was messy, but still some-what straight. When I came out with my backpack ready to go, I dropped it; there were brown pancakes on my stove.
“Is that…” My mouth started watering when he took a plate, placed two on it, drizzled it with Hersey’s syrup and sprayed a mound of whipped cream on top.
“Chocolate pancakes? Why yes, my lady.” He gave me the plate, which I gladly took. I sat down and moaned happily at the first bite. “You like?”
I looked up. “Marry me?”
He laughed, took a napkin, and wiped the syrup off my face. “Knew you would.”
I ate more and started talking. “Damn I need to keep you around more. I haven’t had these since—“
I stopped. Swallowed the bite I was chewing. Trevor was giving me an interesting look.
“Nothing. They’re good, Trevor, thank you.” I half smiled.
I knew he was curious, but he dropped it. “Eat up. We leave in fifteen minutes.”
Before I could blink, we were driving to school. We were loudly singing along to Linkin Park, freaking out the young couple taking a walk. We started puking laughter after we drove through the stop light.
“Did ya…HA! Did you see their faces?!”
“Oh my GAWD!”
After we caught our breaths again, I enjoyed the comfortable silence.
“You know, you’re a really good singer.” He said simply.
“Not really.” I shrugged, trying to be modest. The words were still spinning in my head, and I hummed. I’m becoming me…all I want to do…Is be more like me…and be less like you.
“B.S.” Trevor teased. “You know we have a chorus? And a talent show?”
“How about…let me think…NO. I try too hard to be invisible, and I’m not throwing it away that easy.” I scoffed. “Let them label me a loser. Which I am, but they better know I’ll kick their asses.”
Trevor chuckled. “Sure. I forgot to thank you for yesterday.”
“Yeah, why was Parker assaulting you, again?” I questioned.
“He shoved me into the desk and some chemicals spilled onto his textbook.” He gritted his teeth. “I’ll be getting a bill in the mail soon.”
“Do you work?” I changed the subject.
“Yes, why? Need some extra cash?” He asked back.
“Maybe.” I shrugged.
“The milkshake place? JR’s?” He told me.
“Oh! I love that place!” I smiled, and started giggling.
“What?” He complained.
“Oh, nothing.” I swatted the thought away.
“If you want those pancakes again, you have to tell me.” He threatened.
“I was picturing you in the hat the staff wear.” I licked my lips. “Sexy.”
“Ha!” He laughed. “Whatever you say.” He looked conflicted for a second. “Be careful what you say to guys, ok?”
“Why?” I asked, just as we were turning into the school parking lot.
“Because….because….”
“Because what? Mr. Alpha well get jealous? Not after today.” I growled (Ok, I can’t really growl, but the closest growl I can get). I got out of the car.
“Lauren.” Trevor dragged out my name. “I’m serious; don’t test him.”
“I can test anyone I want to. After today, he’ll know he’s no longer allowed to think about me.” I said. “I’m rejecting him.”
I expected Trevor to gasp and freak out, but he chuckled. “And you think that’d stop him?”
“Yes.” I said dead serious.
“Suit yourself.” He locked his car and I followed his lead inside, almost with new confidence in my step; confidence to prove his ass wrong. There’s nothing I want to see more then Ryan’s face when I dump his pathetic ass.
