Focusing on my studies was not an option.  My mind roamed to how I was going to deliver the messages; basically all the curse words I’m going to use.  Damn, this will be fun.

I’m actually thinking about it on my way to second period.  With a slight hum, I was taking a short cut through the court yard, when I was yanked behind a wall.  My back hit the brick, and I tried not to wince.  I knew who I was by the tingles that shot up my arm.

I looked up to see no other than Ryan, hot as ever.  I was going to tell him to go die in a hole, but when I saw his face, I couldn’t.  Maybe it was the fact that he was impossibly close to me; I couldn’t breathe.

He gave me a soft smile, and my lips betrayed me and perked up.  I slammed them back down and shoved him back.  “Go away.”

Ryan looked amused, and instead of being angry, he placed both his hands against the wall; trapping me.  In a teasing tone, the first thing he said to me since the ninth grade was, “Well, that wasn’t very nice.”

“That was my nice; you don’t want to see me upset.”  I scoffed.

“You need an attitude adjustment.”  He chuckled.

“And you need to move before you lose your balls.”  I threatened, but he didn’t budge.

“You’re pretty cute when you’re angry.”  Ryan says…dreamily?  Lovingly?  Yuck!

“Is it not clear that I want to get away from you?!  Buzz off!”  I tried to push him away again, but he stayed firmly in place.  I began to feel like a caged animal.  “Just get the hell away from me!”

“Oh, why would you want me to do that?”  He stepped closer and there was no more room for me to back up.  I had to lift my head to meet his eyes (damn my shortness!) and our noses were almost touching.  My heart skipped a beat.  “You seem to like this better…mate.”

With a swift move, I gave him a soon-to-be forming bruise on his shin.  He yelped, and I took the precious moment to dart past him—only to be caught by the elbow and pun right back.  I audibly “Oww”ed.

“Don’t do that!”  He commanded with a powerful tone.  “What was that for?  Can’t you behave?!”

What a terrible strategy he had; hit on the girl you want to impress, ignore her requests, then yell at her.  “Oh, I can behave perfectly well when I’m not being eye-raped!”  I shouted with a sarcastic tone.  “Now; here’s the thing.  There is no you and me and there never will be.  You said it yourself.  I don’t care if your moon goddess paired us together; that’s not the way I live.  Sooner or later she will realize her mistake and give you the slut you deserve.  I’ve already met one claiming you two were a couple, anyway.  See my point?  Good.  I wish we had never met.”

I was about to storm off again, but I wanted to watch him digest the words.  Pure hurt appeared on his face.

“Aww—trust me, you’ll get over it.  You know what? I’ll let you say you dumped me.  Keep the pattern going.”  I patted his shoulder, sending sparks through my fingers.  He captured that hand and rubbed it against his cheek.

“How could you say that?  We were meant for each other.”  Ryan whispered.

“Yeah, and maybe I would have agreed to this if you didn’t ruin my life, my self-esteem, and connection with my family.  What was it you said; at that dance oh so many days ago?  You will never be my mate?”

                “I was wrong—“

“Damn right!  And after that—what?!  You think I’m just going to throw myself into your arms?  No.  Find someone more you’re type, because chasing after me is pointless.”  Now I walked away.  I wanted to slap him with his own hand, but I let mine slip out softly.  I even gave him a small smile; it leaked, trust me.

Then, as I have my back to him, he calls “Then I’ll let you come to me!”

I whip around to respond, but he was gone.
