part 2 to 'halloween' and kind of a part 2 to 'family meal'
"stop moving, darling, i need to fasten your coat up so you don't get sick." mason tried to keep our daughter still but it was proving more difficult than it seemed, his hands dropping to his bent knees as he just watched and waited for her to listen to his instructions.
"daddy, can i have a chocolate apple and a sparkler?" thea ignored him, still swaying her body and i could see her in the mirror watching every move that i made.
"thea, what have we told you about listening?" my voice was soft yet still assertive so she knew that i was being serious. "and you won't be getting anything if you don't use your manners."
"sorry, daddy." she put on her best puppy eyes along with a small pout on her face. "please can i have a chocolate apple please."
"it's alright, angel. if you let me put your gloves on, i'll think about it." once she heard her dad basically agree to what she had said, thea immediately shoved her hands out so that mason could put the woolly pink gloves on her.
"when's uncle ben coming?"
"we're meeting him at the park, he said he's got a surprise for you."
luckily for us, the park that was holding the firework display was only about a five minute walk from our home; the short walk to the park being one of the reasons why we bought our house.
"daddy, is it going to snow this year?" thea was undoubtedly a daddy's girl, she had been ever since the moment she was born and even when i was pregnant with her. she'd kick the most when mason would talk to her, she would always settle easier when mason was putting her to sleep and mason was always the one that thea listened to more.
"i think so, angel, we just have to wait and see."
"we can make olaf but we need carrots." "mummy, do we have carrots?"
"not yet but we can get some soon, do you know what the carrots for?" i knew the answer yet i wanted to see if she did as she had never made a snowman before, the past few christmas' hadn't had any luck with snow.
"it's for his nose, mummy, he needs it to smell."
"and what's he going to smell?" i smiled as i saw my daughter think of answer and i knew exactly what she was going to say.
"daddy's breath!"
"daddy has stinky breath, doesn't he?" i joined in, thea giggling at the fact that we were teaming up against mason for the millionth time but she was trying her hardest not to make any eye contact with him.
"thea grace mount, the tickle monster is coming." mason scooped thea up into his arms before she got the chance to run away, tickling her stomach and rubbing his beard on her face as she squirmed to get away.
"daddy, your beard itches." our four year old complained but it was being drowned out by giggles as mason resorted from tickling her to kissing every part of her face that was visible to him.
"uncle ben!" thea excitedly shouted, running as fast as she could to the man who hadn't even noticed that we had arrived.
ben had heard the loud shout and immediately opened his arms for thea to run into, picking her up as soon as she got close enough. "hiya, mini mount, i missed you."
"i missed you more." thea's smile could've been seen from space and so could the red tint on her cheeks after ben kissed one.
"i missed you most."
"no, ask daddy, i missed you more." thea turned the top of her body towards us, pointing her finger at mason causing ben to look in our direction.
"it's a good job that it is ben, isn't it?" mason said, both of chuckling as we intertwined our fingers together.
for about ten minutes we had caught up with ben, even though we had seen a couple of weeks ago at the meal, and we'd bought some food that included a chocolate apple for thea. her teeth and all around her mouth were covered in melted chocolate, despite her only having a few bites of the treat.
"uncle ben, mummy and daddy said you have a surprise for me." thea looked up to her uncle, both hands gripping at the stick as she rocked back and forth on her feet.
"i do, do you want to have a sleepover at my house tomorrow and see the doggies?" thea began to jump and down when what ben had said settled in her head, beaming smiles growing on mine and masons face as the three of us had been planning it for a few days.
"please can i mummy? please, please, please!"
"of course you can, angel." i told her before somebody came on a microphone to tell us that the fireworks were going to start. "thea, the fireworks are starting."
"stay with uncle ben, thea, it's busy." mason told her as we watched her grab bens hand and take multiple steps forward.
with my back against masons chest and his arms around my shoulders, we were happy in this moment. our daughter was dancing with ben in front of us as she giggled and squealed at the fireworks, occasionally turning to face us when a red one was set off.
"remember what i said to you on halloween?" my voice came out as a murmur, turning my body from facing the display of different coloured fireworks to masons face, yet he was still able to hear me completely.
"yeah, what did you mean by that?" a smile now gracing masons face, his arms around my shoulders getting tighter as he tried to pull me closer into him.
ever since halloween night, mason had been questioning a lot of things that had happened, especially when i brought up having another baby. it was a topic that we had discussed multiple times, the pair of us deciding that we were ready for our second baby so he didn't find it strange that i had brought it up, but the way i did.
lifting my glove covered hands up to his face, cupping his cheeks as i rubbed my thumb along his cheekbone, i placed a few soft kisses on his lips before telling him the secret i had been keeping for about a week or so. "i'm pregnant, mase."
"shut up, you're joking me?" masons eyes widened, his smile now going from ear to ear. "i am an actual sex god."
"and you've just ruined the moment, babe." i laughed, moving my hands from his cheeks to his chest.
