third and final christmas themed imagine, then i'm back to writing my requests ! merry christmas everybody 💕💕
this will be a 3rd person pov, she/her pronouns.
he hadn't been expecting to see her here, especially since they'd split up only a couple of months prior. he hadn't expected ben to even invite her but who was he to stop them being friends, especially when her and ben had been close ever since they were young. but he certainly wasn't expecting to see her stood alone by the kitchen entrance with a glass of champagne in her hands.
the tight red dress he'd bought her was hugging her figure, her hair styled to perfection and her makeup was out of this world. she was and always had been beautiful to him, tonight just topped everything off. but it hurt him, it hurt to know that he no longer had that privilege to admire her whenever he wanted, to reach out and touch her when they were out and it hurt to see good she looked without him in her life.
they hadn't even ended on bad terms and they both only wanted what was best for the other person, the reason why they split up being the distance between them.she was in manchester and mason was in chelsea and although it wasn't as if they were on opposite sides of the world, the pair were too busy to even make time for each other. mason would either be with his family, at training or playing in a match; she'd be working constantly and the time that she did have off, she'd be catching up on the university work she'd missed.
so there he was, watching as she looked all over the room for a sight of someone that she knew and could possibly make conversation with but she had no luck, so he took it upon himself to be that person she could talk to.
"you look amazing." mason approached his ex girlfriend with a small smile on his face, him not sure how she'd react to seeing him for the first time since they split up.
"thanks mase, it's the first time i've been dressed up in a while." her smile was genuine when she saw him and she didn't know how but he looked even better than the last time she'd seen him.
"i'm loving the dress." he smirked to her as she ran her hands over the silk fabric of the dress, letting her hands rest on her hips.
"thanks, a special someone got it for me a while back but i've only just round to wearing it."
"well i just want you to know that you look breathtaking." mason complimented her once again, his eyes full of adoration for the woman stood in front of him. "what're you doing here?"
"ben invited me and i had a weekend off work, so here i am." she playfully shrugged her shoulders before raising the glass to her lips, taking a swig of the beverage.
"i thought you'd have uni work or something like that to do?"
"i graduated a few weeks ago, i finally got my degree."
"really?" he questioned, his eyebrows raising slightly as she softly nodded. "congratulations, i'm proud of you. i know how hard you worked for it."
"i definitely had to sacrifice a lot for it though." she told him quietly, hinting at the fact that their relationship was the one to suffer because of her degree.
"this might not be the best time to say but i can't get you out of my head, y/n."
"you broke up with me, remember?"
"i know and i think that was the worst thing i've ever done."
"you think?" she let out a soft chuckle to try and not make him feel awkward, it definitely working as he let one leave his mouth too.
"it was definitely the worst thing i've ever done because when i first saw you tonight, i just wanted to kiss you and hold you like i did when we were together."
"i want to be with you, mase, but i don't want to go through another heartbreak because of distance."
"we can work it out, i promise you." he pleaded, his heart full now that he knew that she felt the same. "i could move to manchester and hopefully..."
"i wouldn't let you move to manchester for me, you have too much here." she shook her head, holding onto one of his hands as she sent him a sympathetic smile. "your family, friends and your club are here."
"then why don't you move here with me?" he questioned her, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. "i can help you find a job and i'll let you decorate the house anyway you'd like."
"would you watch mamma mia with me?"
"i'd watch anything with you if it meant that i got to be with you again."
"and will you scratch my head when i ask?"
"you don't even need to ask, i've always done that for you."
"it's a good job i love you." she giggled, her saying those three words being like a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders
"is that a yes?"
"yeah, don't get tired of me too quickly though."
"look up." he whispered, his eyes scanning over her face as she looked above them, the sprig of mistletoe coming into view.
"what a coincidence we're stood under the mistletoe." she murmured, waiting for mason to make a move but he was too busy at looking at the festive plant above their heads. "are you gonna kiss me or not, mount?"
mason definitely didn't need to be asked twice, him cupping her cheeks like it was the most natural movement in his body, her hands resting on his waist as she gripped his shirt slightly, the both of finally leaning into each other. two months without the others touch felt like eternity but as soon as their lips connected, it was as if they had no time apart, both of them sinking into the kiss and relaxing against the other.
they'd missed this but they missed each other more.
"call me the christmas cupid." ben said proudly as he walked over to the pair once he saw that they'd finishing kissing, a beaming smile on his face before he took a swig of champagne. "i was hoping this would happen when i invited you both." he winked at them as he walked away to probably find reece, leaving her and mason alone once again.
leaning into her once again to place another swift kiss on her lips, this time the kiss ended due to the fact that she was smiling too much. "merry christmas, my love."
