I sat next to Dustin as he sat on the bleachers with his friends. Eleven had a towel around her shoulders.
Joyce and Hopper both left shortly after Eleven got out of the kiddie pool but I didn't remember where Jonathan and Nancy were.
I looked up at the clock on the wall. Wouldn't Jonathan and Nancy come join us by now? I got up and quickly started walking towards where I'd seen Jonathan and Nancy head to, which was the entrance of the gym.
"Where are you going?"
"Stay here for a second," I replied as the others called for me.
I quickly walked out of the gym doors. I looked in the foyer where they would probably be but neither of them was there. I pushed the gym doors open and walked outside to see if they were instead in the parking lot, but Jonathan's car was gone. I sighed.
Great, now I have to look after a bunch of 11-year-olds by myself. I walked back inside the gym.
"They're gone." I said, as I approached the group.
"What?" Lucas asked.
"Nancy and Jonathan. Their car is gone." I said to them.
"They're probably just sucking face somewhere," Dustin said to me.
"Gross." Lucas said, looking over at Dustin.
"No, I really doubt that." I said, looking away from them, thinking for a second. Had they gone with Joyce and Hopper? I doubted that.
"Did they go with the chief?"
"No...," I said to Dustin as I shook my head.
"No," Eleven said to me and I looked over to her with wide eyes.
"What? Did you see them? Do you know where they went?" I asked her.
"Yes."
"Where?" I insisted.
"Demogorgon." She spoke. My eyebrows furrowed for a second. 'Why would they–' I thought. It all made sense now, well most of it at least. Jonathan and Nancy had been trying to track this creature down the past few days and tonight they finally decided to lure it to them and try to kill it, I guess.
"Okay, uh, are you guys okay to stay here?" I said to them, I was going to go look for them at Jonathan's house, they had to be there. Right?
"What?" Mike said and stood up.
"You're leaving us?" Dustin said.
"Yeah, only for an hour, maybe half an hour. You're old enough to stay here, right?" I said to them, shrugging my shoulders. I wasn't great at looking after kids.
"How are you getting to your house?" Lucas asked me.
"Right..." I muttered, thinking for a second.
"Um...bike," I said and started walking to the exit. "Don't leave the middle school, and don't talk to strangers!" I yelled to them from across the basketball court.
I had found a bike in the middle school gym shed. It was old and rusty, and it was pretty small. I just hoped nothing bad would happen while I was gone.
I rode all the way from Hawkins Middle to Jonathan's house. I dropped the bike on the lawn and tried to catch my breath. My lungs were on fire, and I was winded, my legs shaking. I will never be doing that again.
A car pulled up to the house, and Steve Harrington stepped out of it. He had blood and bruises all over his face. Same as mine, though I hadn't bled as much as he did.
