BEEP BEEP BEEP–
I hit the top of my alarm clock in haste. I hated hearing that thing loudly announce itself every single more at 7am for the past 5 years. I rolled over onto my back and opened my eyes, I stared up at the ceiling.
I yawned, admitting defeat, and sat up. I rubbed my eyes and noticed the books scattered around my desk. I spent most of my Sunday night studying with Nancy, my best friend, for our English test later this week at the library. We've been friends ever since middle school.
"Y/n Campbell, you better be out of bed and getting dressed for school!" I heard my mother yell from outside my room. I jumped at her booming voice.
"Yeah, I...I am!" I yelled back, quickly getting out of bed and searching for clothes in my closet.
After getting dressed, I left my bedroom and walked into the bathroom, grabbed my toothbrush, ready to clean my teeth.
I could hear footsteps coming down the hall. "Barb and Nancy are going to be here in 10 minutes." Mom stopped near the bathroom and poked her head in. The woman was in her early 50s, short, and was currently folding the cuffs of her suit shirt down.
"I know, I know." I said, sticking the toothbrush in my mouth.
She looked up at me before saying, "And please brush your hair, you look like you just rolled out of bed."
I rolled my eyes, 'that's because I literally did just roll out of bed' I thought but nodded my head, causing her to walk off down the hall.
I finished brushing my teeth and wiped my chin with the towel that was hanging next to the sink, then walked out into the hallway and walked towards the kitchen for some breakfast.
"Mornin', champ." My father spoke from behind his newspaper.
I looked over at him as he folded one side of the newspaper down to look at me. "Morning." I flashed him a smile before going for the box of cereal. He wore glasses that sat at the end of his nose, he was in his mid 50s, just a few years older than my mom.
"Y/n, come one. Nancy and Barb are waiting outside, don't keep them waiting." I heard my mom say from the living room.
I groaned before dropping the box of cereal onto the kitchen table. I guess I'll have to eat at school then. I ran to get my backpack from the front door, then yelled my goodbyes and exited the house. The early morning breeze hit my face, making me get goose flesh as I jogged over to Barb's car that was parked in my driveway.
"Hey Y/n." Nancy smiled as I opened the backseat door and got in.
"Hey Nancy, Barb." I smiled back, putting my seatbelt on. Barb gave me a small smile, and I sat back in my seat as Barb pulled out of my driveway.
During the ride to school, Nancy turned around in her seat. She was younger than me by a year, her and Barb are sophomores, and I'm a junior, so we didn't have many classes together, but that didn't matter much since we were all inseparable, Nancy and me at least. I'm not very close with Barb since we're not in the same year and Nancy became friends with her when she started high school, a year after me.
"Jonathan's mom called my house this morning." Nancy spoke with a look of concern.
"Really? Why?" I said, leaning forward in my seat.
"Joyce was asking where Will was and if he stayed over last night..." she answered.
"And did he?" I asked, my eyebrows furrowing.
"No."
I looked away, thinking for a moment as I looked out the window.
Once we made it to school, I was dropped off at one of the entrances since my locker was further away from Nancy and Barb's. I re-adjusted my backpack straps on my shoulders as I walked inside and made my way to my locker.
