Angelica was startled by the items placed down on the counter making her finally snap out of her thoughts and look up to see a young man.
She looked back down at the contents and smiled, well more like grimaced.
There was a six pack of beer and a lighter. She looked up to the man again. He looks too young.
"Can I check an ID please?"
The young man smirked and leaned on the counter making Angelica lean back.
"I don't need an ID." He said as he stared at her.
"You do need one sir. I can't sell these to you without confirming your age." Angelica bravely said as she raised her eyebrow.
The young man stared at her for a while with the smirk slowly faltering.
"What's your name?" He asked as he finally leaned away from the counter making Angelica let out a subtle deep breath.
"What's yours?" She asked instead making him raise his eyebrows in surprise.
"You don't trust me?"
Angelica resisted the urge to grimace again as she stared at the guy in front of her who seemed to be unbelievably cocky. It was annoying.
"My name's Tyler."
Angelica slowly nodded her head and moved the items from the counter to the side.
"Well Tyler if I don't see an ID I can't sell these to you."
"Are you gonna tell me your name-."
"Angelica get me those boxes from the back of the counter."
Ms. Rosa came from the break room and instantly placed a smile on her face once she saw a customer was in the room.
"Oh! I'm sorry I didn't notice there was a customer here."
"So, that's your name." He said as he nodded to himself.
Angelica resisted the urge to roll her eyes as to not be rude and held in a deep breath.
"Is there anything else you would like to get?"
"Yes actually. A date with you."
Angelica stared at him in slight disgust. The way he asked wasn't the problem. His way of approaching her already brought her bad vibes from him.
"Sorry I-."
"She would love to."
Angelica whipped her head towards her mom in disgust as she smiled at the young man who was grinning from ear to ear.
"Mom." Angelica said through her teeth as her mother lightly pushed her away from the counter and rang up all the alcohol.
"She's actually free right after this." Ms. Rosa said as she handed Tyler the bag containing his things after he paid.
"That's great then."
****
Oh lord please get me out of here.
Her mom ended up forcing her to go on the date with this guy who she had just met. Her mother said that was she knew him and that he was a good kid and that she should give it a try.
Of course she couldn't state the fact that she had the biggest crush on Sunghoon and wasn't really interested in going on a date with this dude.
"So I'm guessing you're new here right?"
Angelica gave him an awkward smile and nod as she sat inside the restaurant that she had been at before with Jake and Yu Ahn.
"Ok. Well what have you done so far?" He asked.
"Nothing much."
After that there was an awkward long silence where Angelica didn't know what to do.
Soon the waiter came with menus in hand. He looked at them both and seemed to stop for a second once his eyes reached Tyler.
Angelica noticed the waiters shaking hand and felt slightly bad.
"Is this your first day?" She asked softly.
"Yes, actually." The waiter said with a surprised look.
"Well don't worry I've been there before. You'll get used to it." She said nicely.
Tyler stared at her as she smiled politely at the waiter who seemed a little more at ease.
She hadn't realized that the cause of the shaking wasn't just his first day but it was his first customer. Tyler.
The waiter bowed after asking for their drinks and walked away.
"You seem to be nice to him, why can't you be nice to me?" Tyler said with a faint annoyed smile.
Angelica had no other response but to shrug. She didn't know why. She was just not getting the right vibes from him and she wasn't interested in going out with him in the first place.
"Is there someone you like? Is that why?"
Angelica didn't waste time and nodded her head. Tyler let out a chuckle and looked away from her.
"Don't worry you'll eventually start thinking about me."
That was single-handedly the cringiest line I have ever heard.
She looked away from him trying to hold in her ten thousandth grimace of the last half an hour.
*****
"How was your date?"
"Ma I don't understand you. You tell me not to go out with guys because guys in this town are 'dangerous' but then I meet a guy for less than a minute and you tell him it's okay to take me out on a date?"
Mrs. Rosa didn't know how to respond and she just shrugged her shoulders.
"I like Tyler. He's been nothing but nice to me."
What about Sunghoon?
She resisted the urge to say as she rolled her eyes and walked up the stairs in a hurry.
****
She plopped down on her seat and rolled her neck. She hadn't gotten any sleep for some reason. She had nights like that. Where she couldn't sleep even if she tried to.It wasn't nightmares or anything like that. It was just plain not being able to sleep. She blamed it on stress.
She soon heard the iconic intense quietness in the room and knew who came in without having to look up.
She resisted the urge to smile as her eyes followed Sunghoon as he walked inside the room.
Once everyone finally started talking again. He walked down the row of seats purposely brushing past her.
"Fun-sized." He said lowly as a greeting.
"Skyscraper." She responded.
She wasn't gonna lie and say that she wasn't surprised by him greeting her. They had gone on that 'date' if you could call it that but she wasn't sure whether they were friends or not. At least the type to talk to each other.
Wait a second....I hated being called short by my friends when I was younger. He calls me short and I enjoy it?!?
She pondered as she looked at her desk in confusion.
