How to catch a Ranger Apprentice.

Gilan couldn't recall a time he had ever wanted to throw a steaming pile of horse dung at Halt more than in this moment.
Halt was snickering on Abelard as gilian was hanging upside down in a tree hanging from one foot. This year Gilan had thought he was finally going to get the better of Halt, but how wrong had he been. He had fallen into another one of Halt's traps.
"When will you ever learn boy. I've had you for 3 years now and you still think you're going to get the better of me." Halt looked up at Gilan with a smug smile as he casually walked over to him.
"Now let this be a lesson." Oh no, this couldn't be good Halt's lessons never ended well. "Pride comes before the what now?" Shit. Halt cut the rope and Gilan 'gracefully' fell onto the ground. All of his air rushed out of his lungs making a loud whoomph sound as he landed. Halt and the horses all laughed at him.
"Oh laugh it up har har. Very funny Halt. Oh shut up Blaze. " Huffed Gilan as he sat up in the dirt.
Halt looked at Gilan with his serious face back on- you know the one he makes that looks like he permanently has a stick up his butt anyhoo-
"What do you say." Halt said in a sing-song-ish voice.
Gilan sighed in defeat. "You win."
"I'm sorry I didn't hear that could you say it a little louder? You know I'm hard of hearing." Halt had a hand cupped to his ear.
"YOU WIN!" Gilan yelled so that halt could hear with his old ears. "You happy now?"
"Yes, I am thank you for asking. You've always been so considerate." Halt snickered as he hopped onto Abelard.

Blaze walked over to Gilan and nudged him.
'Aw why the long face kid?'
"Don't you even start that"
'It's funny.'
"No, it's just annoying."
' Oh, I have another one. When does a horse talk?'
"I don't even want to know the answer."
'Whinny wants to.'
Blaze starts to laugh at her own joke.

A cough comes from beside Gilan. "You done sitting in the dirt and talking to your horse." Gilan quickly hops onto Blaze without a word. Not only were his ribs bruised but so was his pride.
Gilan and Halt rode side by side in silence as they continued their ride to the gathering. Until Gilan broke it.

"Please don't tell Crowley about this."

Halt smiled his wolfish grin. Double shit. That smile was never a good sign.
"Oh, you have more to worry about than just Crowley. When I'm finished the whole gathering will know about it and will tell it for years to come." Gilan groaned this story was never going to leave him. True to Halt's word every ranger that came and went knew about Gilan's failed attempt to trap the infamous Halt.

And let's just say when Will found out he felt a lot less bad about his failed attempts with trapping Halt.

I wish we had more stories about Halt and Gilans relationship. Its just so cheeky and funny. Comment if you want more of these.
