⊱ ─ First Game ─ ⊰

"It appears the entire school has turned out to see the once Mighty Ducks, I mean, rather, the, um, Eden Hall Warriors do battle with the Blake freshmen Bears," The Hockey Announcer, Josh spoke. Daisy sat down in the crowd to watch the game, she took a steady breath as she noticed Benny and Linda sitting together. Daisy looked down to the bench noticing Charlie looking up at her, she turned her head away and focused on the ice. The team went to do their signature Duck cheer but Orion was quick to stop them.

Daisy could tell that the team was on edge. "Point of fact, Charlie Conway is not wearing the traditional captain "C". He's been this team's captain since they played in District Five. I guess Coach Orion's making a statement. On top of that, Daisy Jacobs has pulled out of the game tonight, is it permanent or temporary? How will the team play without her?" Josh spoke. The team was winning so far, they were playing well considering the changes.

Russ hit his signature knucklepuck and scored another point. Luis had the puck and was skated down the center only for the team to call out, "He can't stop! He's got no brakes!" Luis went over the net but they still managed to score a point. Fulton hit his slapshot, the goalie caught it but the fast momentum of the puck made the goalie spin in circles before the puck ended up in the net, scoring another point for the Ducks.

Kenny approached Russ, "Yo, Russ, you got to teach me how to talk some trash talk." Russ smiled as he shrugged, "It can't be taught, Kenny, man. I mean, it's got to be the first thing that comes to your mind. You just got to go for it. Try it." Kenny went to trash talk the ref but Russ covered his mouth telling him to pick another target. "Hey, number 44, you-you-you-you don't play real good," Kenny attempted making Russ facepalm. "Shorter, men. Get to the point," Russ tells him. "Hey, number nine, bite me!" Kenny shouted only to be shoved.

Charlie had the puck. "Unbelievable! Conway gets the hat trick from somewhere out in the ozone! At the end of two, it's Eden Hall nine, Blake zero. It's over folks," Josh says. Orion kept switching out the players, Daisy shook her head as they all got exhausted quicker and the team began to struggle in their new positions against the larger players. The Blake players were getting in some points, Julie was trying her best to stop them but the defence wasn't helping her out which was beginning to frustrate the girl.

Charlie had the puck and was about to shoot when he tripped, this gave the other team an opportunity to shoot the puck and score. Charlie got up and swung his hockey stick down on the net breaking it instantly. Daisy's eyes widened, she had never seen Charlie so angry before. The ref pulled Charlie to the penalty box for unsportsmanlike conduct where he threw his gloves to the ground. "Oh my, Conway is really hot. He'll get two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. Where has the Warrior's defence gone in this period?" Josh announced.

Relax, Charlie. Play the game. Breathe. Daisy thought to herself as she watched him pace the penalty box. When Charlie finally got out of the penalty box and back on the ice, he managed to get the puck. "In a last-ditch effort, Blake is pulling their goalie. Thirty left, and the Warriors are desperately trying to hang on. Conway's out of the box and skating hard," Josh announced. All he needed to do was pass the puck to Fulton and they would score and win the game but instead, he skated to the goal ignoring the others. He was tripped up again and one of the Blake Bears got the puck and scored a point, they were tied.

Daisy made her way from the crowd to the locker room to finally snap at her team. Meanwhile, Charlie and Russ were arguing about Charlie's decision with Fulton backing up Charlie. Orion stopped the potential fight as he walked in. "How long does it take to score a goal?" Orion yelled before he raised his arm and threw a puck at a wall, breaking a poster and startling the team. "Less than a second!" Orion said sternly as he looked around at the team.

Orion stood tall in front of the team, "That means no lead is safe if you can't play defence! Now get this straight! I don't give a damn how many goals you score. I want one number on your mind: zero, as in shutout." He took a breath. "You got that?" He shouted. "Practice, tomorrow morning, five am," Orion stated firmly before walking out of the locker room. Orion walked around the corner and spotted Daisy standing there, he made his way over to her. "Practice is at five am tomorrow. If you aren't there, you're off the team. Understand?" Orion stated.

Daisy looked up at him, "I'll be there." He didn't say anything else, just walked away from her as she let out a sigh. She stopped when she heard Dean Buckley's voice. "I know you're as disappointed in that tie as we are," Dean Buckley spoke as Daisy looked around the corner. "Actually, I'd preferred a loss," Orion answered back, Daisy furrowed her brows. "You're kidding, right, Coach?" Buckley asked him. "Well, you learn a hell of a lot more from losing than from winning," Orion responded. Daisy closed her eyes realising that Orion was trying to teach them valuable lessons, similar to what Bombay did.

Buckley sighed, "We don't have time for learning. We need to win. They could lose their scholarships." Daisy's eyes opened and widened hearing that. She couldn't believe it, they could take those scholarships away like they were nothing whenever they pleased. "You're kidding... right, Dean?" Orion asked, genuinely worried for the kids. Daisy took another breath before making her way to the locker room finding it empty. She heard voices from the other locker room for the Varsity team, she opened the door slightly and saw her friends freezing the Varsity teams belongings.

Daisy shook her head before stepping back and walking away, she made her way to her locker and grabbed her things when someone closed her locker shut. She turned her head to see Adam standing there. "Hey Banksy," Daisy spoke softly, he smiled softly at her before the two of them leaned back against the lockers and slid down to the ground. "I heard that you and Charlie broke up," Adam said quietly. Daisy sucked in a breath, "Not in so many words. I, uh, actually don't know what's going on." Daisy rested her head on Adam's shoulder.

Adam sighed as he rested his head on top of Daisy's. "You two will work things out. No one can stop the almighty Daisy and Charlie duo, you have a love that burns brighter than the sun," Adam assured making Daisy smile and chuckle slightly. "Thanks, Adam. It means a lot," Daisy responded before the two sat in silence just letting time flow by. Daisy knew that Adam was right but it wasn't about waiting for things to work out, she had to step up and talk to Charlie about everything, And that's what she was gonna do.
