Clarke

With Alie's kill switch activated I expected an explosion or a simulated earthquake. Instead the city of light disappeared in the time it took me to blink.

"Clarke" my mother stood over me holding my face.

"Mom?" I questioned trying to adjust. Sitting up I looked around the throne room. It was in disarray. Several people were groaning in pain as they were helped by others. "It worked?" I had to make sure this wasn't a trick.

"It did" she smiled pulling me into a quick hug.

I sighed in relief relaxing into her hug. Another problem solved except now there was a new life threatening danger a head of us. Alie warned of a nuclear melt down in an attempt to stop me from activating her kill switch. But surviving in the city of light wasn't surviving. "Freya" I heard her name be called. Gaia and my mother were trying to remove the flame from my head but I knocked their hands away.

Indra and Octavia cut the ropes around her chest and wrists. Freya's limp body slumped forward into Octavia's arms. I shot out of my chair in a panic. "What happened in there? Why isn't she waking up?" Octavia asked helping Indra lay her on the floor.

Black blood dripped from Freya's nose and ears. My fingers went to her neck feeling for a pulse. "She's not breathing" I announced moving to start compressions on her chest. My mom lightly pushed Octavia out of the way to kneel by her head. Indra set her hand on Octavia's shoulder to keep her back. I knew I should have forced her to come to the kill switch with me even if it meant the mob breaking through the door. Pinching her nose and tilting her head back I blew air into her lungs.

"Nothing" my mom held her stethoscope to her chest.

I went back to doing compressions on her. Freya wasn't going to die now after everything we've been through. She was on my side from the beginning. I need her, she can't die because she was protecting me.

"Clarke what happened in the city of the light!" Octavia yelled. A tear rolled down my cheek as I saw the image of her running into the mob. "No" she shoved Bellamy away.

"We were being followed by Alie, Freya was protecting me. There were too many of them" I choked out.

My mom peeled open one of her eyelids and shined a light in them. "No pupil stimulation" she said quietly. "Clarke" she set her hand over mine. Shaking my head I tilted Freya's head back to blew air into her lungs again. "She's gone, Clarke" my mother said softly.

"She died a warrior's death. Yu gonplei ste odon" Indra said with a twinge of sorrow in her voice.

"NO no we are not giving up on her yet!" I failed at holding back my cry.

Someone took my shoulders from behind and gently eased me away from her body. "Freya's dead, Clarke" Bellamy whispered.

Choking out a breath I slowly took my hands away from her chest and set them on my knees. My friend is gone. How was I going to tell Anna? Anna, she didn't give up on Lexa when we'd thought she died. I have to try harder. In a last attempt to start her heart I quickly punched Freya in the center of her chest with all of my strength. "Come on" I grit my teeth waiting a second and hitting her again.

Abruptly, Freya's eyes shot open and she let out a loud gasp for air. She coughed taking deep breaths.

"Thank you" I hugged her, holding her tightly.

She clumsily set her hand on my back. "For what" she croaked.

"For not dying" I mumbled into her neck. Octavia took my place in hugging her once I leaned away.
