Ever sense Sophie got Keefe to the healing center, she hadn't left. Hadn't eaten. Hadn't slept.
Monitoring Keefe's comatose state made time slow to an agonizing pace. Seconds felt like minutes. Minutes like hours.
And all the while her mind felt unsteady, like if she thought to hard something would crack.
So she didn't think.
Until the day Edaline finally convinced her to come home.
She could never really tell when everything started to fall apart. But if she had to decide, it would probably be when she finally sat down to process... Everything.
Terrible idea, really.
She forced herself into the shower when she got home. Dragged herself to bed. She stared at the canopy, Letting her mind wander. She hoped to avoid thinking about everything that happened at Loamnore.
She should've known that's where her mind would've gone anyway.
Memories of tormented screams and swirling Magsidian shoved into her thoughts, bringing questions she never wanted answers to.
What if I had inflicted?
What if I had tried harder to make sure keefe was safe?
What if... What if this is all my fault?
She knew it was. She was the Moonlark. She was supposed to fix everything.
But she was so pathetic that she couldn't even save the people she loved.
It was all her fault.
And
It
Broke
Her.
Her mind flashed to a memory.
A blond boy laying across a bench.
"You must be-"She couldn't remember what he said as that memory
Fractured
Split
Shattered.
She let out a muffled cry as pieces of the memory faded. As she sat up in bed, Anger wound like a string around the memory, stopping it from fading further.
Only now the memory felt... different. Pieces were missing. And the whole memory made her want to punch that blond asshole in the face.
Just when she was about to settle back into bed, Sandor appeared in the doorway, his face full of concern. She realized he probably heard her gasp.
"I'm fine," she replied instinctively, completely full of shit.
He seemed to know that, but he didn't press.
She fell back into bed, vowing never to think again.
Nothing good ever came from it.

Well, that was fun while it lasted.
The soft light of dawn came in through her windows as she drowsily woke.
