(Nate's POV)

It started with the alcohol, it always did. Followed by screams and glass shatters. I never questioned it. I never talked to him about it, or in general for the matter. And definitely would never tell anyone about it. I probably deserved it anyway, I was a screwup. No one truly cares for me, not even my mother loved me. I mean, I understand why she left, but it doesn't hurt any less after all these years.

I couldn't see the point in life. I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel those idiots always tell you about. I was alone with nothing but darkness around me, pitch silence and pure fucking loneliness.

-

I rolled around in my bed, my room letting little to no light in. My alarm had woken me up half an hour ago, but I haven't seen to be able to get myself out of it. I had no motivation to, no reason to. I felt disgusting. I felt like I was slowly rotting within these broken-down walls. I let a single tear roll down my eyes. Fuck. I jump out of bed drastically, shaking my head. Don't be a pussy, Nate. I reminded myself. I walk slowly out my room, rubbing my eyes towards the bathroom. I push the door open with my hand, only for the door to open only halfway. I look down to see my dad, passed out with a couple of bears glasses next to him.

Typical

I slide myself through the tight fit to take a glance at myself in the mirror. Dark circles under my eyes, messy hair and pale skin. Gross. I sprayed myself with my deodorant and splashed my face with water. Blindly I grabbed towel from beside me and wipe off my face, the tips of my hair slight dripping. I sigh, before leaving the bathroom, going back into my room. I take off my current t-shirt with one hand before throwing it down to the floor. I pull out a random white tee and the same denim jacket as always, black jeans I pull up to my waist and buckle up my belt. Good enough.

I walk out my room, swinging my backpack over my shoulder. I tumble down the few stairs that led up to my room, grabbing a banana on the way out for my food for the day. I hop on my motorcycle, not bothering to put a helmet on, what was the point. I threw my banana peel on the sidewalk, before starting up my bike and leaving for school.

-

The sound of the school bell rings through my ears as I stand in front of the school building, contemplating whether to go in or not. I roll my eyes and sigh, pushing myself forward towards the wide doors. The hallway of gossiping teenagers flooded my ears. I started fast pace through the hallway, trying to block out all noise. I didn't care about who fucking Vanessa fucking slept with on the weekend. She was a bitch, or it seemed like everyone these days were.

After a short while, I had made myself to my locker, unlocking it with seconds. I swung it open carelessly grabbing books and a random pencil. I slammed it shut, walking to first class. If I wasn't careful I was going to be late, and I was on the verge of deletion because the idiotic teachers were so strict.

I opened the door to my first class, the starting bell ringing as soon as I did. My English teacher looks at me.

"You're late." She said with a harsh tone. I sighed.

"No I'm actually not, I made it here on time," I replied, was she dumb? She shook her head, not saying another word. I scanned the classroom for an empty seat right at the back, I directed myself towards the seat before dropping my books to my desk, and bag on the floor next to me.

"Welcome everyone to a new year of school." Ms Wales smiled brightly. "I'm looking forward to this new school year and what it will bring." Liar. She probably didn't even care. "I hope you all finished the homework I assigned over the holidays yeah?" She said giving a sceptical look at the class. Fuck. The homework.

Ms wales went around the class collecting homework, with everyone handing it to her. She stopped at the girl next to me, her hand out, waiting for the work. Although nothing was handed to her. Instead, a girl ruffling through her bag, a scared look on her face. She slowly looked up and made eye contact with the teacher. "I swear I did it Ms, you know me I would never purposely not do my homework." The girl pleaded.

"Unfourtantly for you Bronwyn, this was worth 20% of your grade, and I cannot afford slackers. I'm really disappointed in you, I expected better from you, detention after school." I couldn't help but let out a chuckle. Detention for the little know it all? The class pet? She turned to me and gave me a glare which I simply ignored.

The teacher turned to me, with a knowing look on her face. "Homework?" she raised an eyebrow. I frowned. "So yeah, I could not complete the homework due to some family issued, my grandma passed away early holidays and I just didn't have it in me." I lied. Ms Wales nodded her head.

"Right." She said. "So it this the same grandma that passed away last year? And the same one that passed away earlier that year as well?" She continued. I stayed quiet. "Yes?" I said, more as a question with doubt in my voice. Fuck.

"That's what I thought, looks like you'll be joining Ms Ojas after school in detention."

What. I turned to look at the girl next to me, who had a smug look planted on her face. Of course, she did the little brat. I rolled my eyes, obviously annoyed. A whole hour, with her? My life couldn't get any fucking worse.
