Chapter Text
"What do you mean he legally doesn't exist? Wil, you looked over his documents." Phil dismissed, this was definitely part of Techno's weird conspiracy he thought.

"No I- When I looked at his files they were forged. Very poorly forged too." Wilbur was looking away from his father.

"Why didn't you tell me?!" Phil stood up from his computer, he couldn't believe this.

"I didn't want him to lose his job! You would've fired him!" Wilbur crossed his arms.

"Yeah because we don't know who he is! That's not the point. Wil I know why you did it but why did you hide it Techno?" Phil's gaze shifted to Technoblade and morphed into disappointment.

Why did he do this?

"Because I thought he'd be easier to track closer to us, obviously." His voice was uncertain and he was too. Was that really why he was doing it?

I mean, it was his reasoning when Wilbur told him but now? He was attached. Tommy was loud, and annoying, and had the worst laugh, but it had warped into something he looked forward to. His loud, awkward laugh lit up Techno's day. Hell, he walked with Tommy to the coffee shop when he did a coffee run. He helped Tommy pick up so they could talk. It was never anything profound, just small talk about how the week had gone. And admittedly, Techno missed it. And now Tommy was missing, at least to his roommate.

Techno wondered if the goat kid knew about Tommy's illegal crime-fighting, he doubted it.

Phil sighed. "You do know that us hiring a minor is very illegal, especially a potential vigilante.

"Even if he's just an intern?" Techno muttered.

"He's in danger by proxy of knowing us, and that's without the added risk of all of us being attached to him."

Techno frowned, Phil was right. Just by letting Tommy work here, they put him in harm's way. But Techno wanted to be selfish, and so did Wilbur. So they continued to argue with Phil, the three of them ended up in a shouting match. Phil was reasonable, both of them knew that but they didn't want it to be.

Dream knew Tommy loved him.

That's why he came back, after all, he just couldn't stand another day without him. Dream knew Tommy would not continue to stay if he was disciplined the moment he stepped into the door, so instead Dream celebrated his return with him.

Tommy came back to a nice dinner, and even though Tommy said he already ate, Dream made sure that Tommy's plate was empty before he got up. He let Tommy go to his room early, knowing he must've been exhausted from all that time he spent away. Dream made sure to dispose of Tommy's cellphone, there was no use if Tommy would keep hiding it.

Day two Dream was just as kind, he let Tommy have his privacy, he even gave Tommy a gift. It was a lime green jacket, one that matched the one Dream wore the day he was thrown into prison. Tommy didn't need to know about any of that though. Dream didn't want to traumatize him after all.

Dream made all three meals that day, rat-poison-free. He couldn't have Tommy sick until at least the next day. The last thing he needed was to be thrown up on while he disciplined Tommy. Tommy spent most of that day in his room too, Dream knew he must've been stressed out still. I mean, Dream had found his beloved friend's address. Dream knew that Tommy understood Dream would never hurt his friends, just like how he'd never hurt Tommy.

Dream woke Tommy up at four the next morning, on the dawn of the third day. As much as it pained Dream to discipline Tommy, he knew that was what was best. He needed to reel Tommy back in a bit, he'd gotten too bold staying with those bad influences for so long. Dream wanted to take Tommy back to how he was before their little spat about Tommy's paperwork. Dream didn't mean to hit him that hard, but he guessed Tommy deserved it for what he did. Either way, Tommy seemed to think that Dream was out of line, so he just had to put Tommy in his place.

Now, Dream was pretty isolated in where he lived, so screaming never had to be kept down. In fact, Dream preferred that Tommy scream. It made him feel... Powerful. In a way, he never did as a kid. That's what days like the third were filled with, loud shrieks and bruises. But Dream was sure Tommy would be fine.

Tommy tried to fight back this time.

It was an interesting move, not that smart. He just reached up and gave Dream a light slap on the face. Dream couldn't have any of that, so he did what he felt was the most just and deserving punishment. And he broke Tommy's right arm. He still remembered the scream that rang out clearly, as well as the snapping sound that resonated from Tommy's arm despite it being several hours later.

He remembered the begging once Dream pulled out the mallet. Of course, he reassured Tommy that it would be okay. He had no intention of hurting him, that would be abuse. He set Tommy's arm across two cinder blocks, with a gap in between them just above his elbow. Tommy's arm shook, and Dream brought down the mallet where the gap was, holding the arm down at the wrist. Tommy let out a gut-wrenching scream and the bone crunched, a similar sound to those crunchy snacks Puffy used to give him in the summertime, the frozen ones, but this was so much better.

He had decided that was enough, that anything more would be cruel. Dream wasn't a bad parent, he would never hurt Tommy.

Tommy knew nothing about broken bones and he didn't have a phone to google how to set it. It was worse that it was his dominant arm just rendered completely useless because Dream was a sick bastard. Tommy wrapped his arm with gauze and prayed that was enough, that it wouldn't heal wrong. He didn't think he could take breaking it again to set it correctly.

He knew had to leave but fuck, where could he even go? Dream threatened Ranboo and Tubbo, so there was no way in hell he was going back there. He could run to the Tower but he was terrified of the heroes making him leave. Dream had explained to him how awful it was to be a foster kid, and Tommy would rather continue getting beat by Dream than end there.

That's when it hit him. The bakery. He could go there and- and call Tubbo and Ranboo and tell them he's (more or less) okay, he could call out of work instead of leaving them hanging. And he trusted in himself that he could lie to Niki and Puffy's faces. I mean they were bakers, how could they tell he was lying? They wouldn't. Tommy didn't bother packing a bag, instead, he opened the window and jumped out.

It was going to be a long walk.
