From The Deep (Mer!Katsuki Bakugou x Mer!Fem!Reader)

Chapter 6

It was finally midday. Y/n had fully woken up and Bakugou had finished roaming around the caverns. It seems that her kind of mers would often sleep the first half of the day and be most active at night, where the least light shone through the surface. Bakugou had approached the exit of the cavern but knew better than to go out into the almost pitch black water. It confused Bakugou that even if his internal clock said it was already daylight the water was still as dark as it had been hours ago. Of course that was before he came to the conclusion that the cavern must be much deeper than he had first assumed, the stronger water pressure only adding onto his theory.

"I believe that this is enough for our trip" said the female mer as she swam up to Bakugou with a slightly large satchel, from the looks of it there seemed to be some weapons and a good amount of food that should last a good two days if they only eat the necessary amount of three times a day. "What do you mean 'our' trip?!" Bakugou asked as he disliked the idea of having the female come along with him on his trip, even if he knew it would be hard to find his home with how far he knew he was, his plan was to depend on his homing instincts and eventually find his home. But as it seemed the female had different plans if the slightly large satchel across her torso was something to go by. "I believe that it will be best that I accompany for the first day or two of your journey" The female replied calmly and unbothered by the evident bite in his voice. "Why the hell would i need you to come with me?!" Bakugou was clearly not ecstatic at the thought of company during his travels. "I do not intend on coming with you throughout your entire trip, I will simply ensure that you reach the borders of my territory with no issues" she said, leading to Bakugou's face contorting into one of clear offense as he spoke "What?! You think I can't handle myself?!" "I didn't mean to offend you, I would simply like to ensure you leave my territory without issue. This is what the humans call the Mariana trench after all" That was when it had suddenly clicked in Bakugou's head. The reason it was still dark was in fact due to how deep they were, they were currently floating within a cavern in one of the walls of the deepest trench in the world.

Y/n had been watching silently as Bakugou put the pieces together in his head before she decided to finally break the silence. "We should get going. The sooner we leave the sooner you leave my territory" Bakugou was about to yell to her 'don't tell me what to do' but she had already begun to swim towards the entrance of the cave. Bakugou growled as he followed the female waiting at the entrance, the frame of the entrance creating a border that showed only pitch black through the outside.

Bakugou was aware that he would have a hard time finding his way through the black abyss in front of him, but he would rather swim into an underwater volcano before admitting it. As it had turned out Y/n seemed to expect him to be unable to see, since the scales of her tail had begun glowing f/c. This had been the first time Bakugou had truly managed to notice the female's features properly. Since the previous times he had either been dizzy due to blood loss or been speaking to her as she sat within a dark cavern, making it hard to distinguish her features.

Bakugou is now certain that the glowing of her tail was in fact real and he had not imagined it during his dizzied state. He had noticed how a certain amount of scales glowed while others did not. For the most part Bakugou had been correct in her appearance even while half delusional of what had been happening.

Her tail was in fact mostly a shiny, polished black that one may even manage to see their reflection against if they were to have the proper lighting. The only scales that weren't black, faded from a dark f/c to a slightly lighter one starting about halfway down the flipper of her tail as it trailed down to the tips of her fin. The very same pattern followed on her side fins as they begun turning f/c halfway and continued downwards. Her top had been accurate as it was in fact a matching color to her tail with a single sleeve, now however Bakugou had noticed the shimmering scales on her exposed shoulder. The scales were mostly the same black as those of her tail, forming a small patch on her shoulder with some f/c scales scattered across the black patch, looking like a small version of a star filled sky.

"Should we get going then?" said Y/n as she looked at Bakugou, who had been studying her shoulder for an uncomfortable amount of time. Bakugou's head snapped up at the sound of the females voice, face turning red as he quickly realized he had been staring at her for far too long. "Yeah, lets go" replied Bakugou as he turned his head avoiding eye contact as he tried to hide his red face. Y/n had noticed his sudden embarrassment, thanks to her eyes being accustomed to the darkness of her cavern it wasn't hard to see the pink that had dusted the male's cheeks. As curious as she was, Y/n decided against asking the blonde as she did not feel like dealing with his temper, which she has quickly learned about within the few hours she has known the boy.
