- a mindless journey -

(warning: manga spoilers ahead!)
Before I could register, dawn had rolled in and we had risen before the sun to pack our belongings for our long trip ahead. I didn't know how long the rest were intending to stay there, but I was not eager to stay for as long as I was going to.
Nonetheless, I took in a breath and readied myself, following the group into the boat that we had hijacked from a group coming in with Eldian prisoners. We were to be dressed as tourists, so hats, smiles, and holding hands were a compulsory thing so as to not seem suspicious.
There was a glass pane that stretched from the ceiling of the room of the boat we were in that separated us from the cockpit of the boat where Onyankopon and some other faction members pilotted. I could see my entire reflection in the glass.
A girl - scrawny, but a girl nonetheless - who was on her way to wage war with a foreign country she knew nothing of. I had worn a skirt and blouse for this occasion, and it felt very strange to be wearing something other than pants and collar shirts for the first time.
The skirt was flowy and reached my mid-calves, a dull orange color. I didn't like the hue in the slightest, but brushed it off, hoping the others thought I looked (somewhat) decent. It was hiked to my stomach and a white blouse was tucked into it. It had puffy sleeves that fluttered when I walked and hung at my wrists. On the section of the right collarbone, was embroidered with little birds flying.
I liked it a lot, and since Sasha and Mikasa picked it out for me, I liked it even better. Armin walked next to me and stared at his own reflection too. I looked at the two of us next to each other. We were about the same height and the boy had cut his hair from its otherwise growing length.
He looked back from the reflection to look at me. "I didn't realize you grew so much." He said. I looked at him and punched his arm lightly.
"Don't say things like that. You sound like Levi." I let out a small laugh, and Armin did as well, grabbing my hand.
A bright smile lit his face. "Come on, I didn't want to stay below deck for the entire ride!" He pulled on my hand and dragged me along behind me quite suddenly. I let out a yelp and gripped my sunhat tightly so it didn't fall off.
I was going to scold Armin for pulling me so harshly, but my breath was taken away when I drank in the sight before me. We were on the front deck and the wind fluttered past our faces in fast ribbons, playing with our hair. The sun had risen quite quickly and was above our heads, beating on our backs and scalps, sending stinging thrills down our spines.
It was one thing to hear of wonder that the roaring sea beheld from Eren, but to see it was another experience in itself.
The hull of the ship cut through the serene waves like a knife through cheese sending sprays of water up and gulls circled above us in a ring.
I let out a delirious laugh and threw my hands out at my sides and closed my eyes feeling the wind on all parts of my body, my loose sleeves fluttering in the breeze. Armin laughed as well and threw himself onto me, wrapping me in a huge embrace. I reciprocated with a smile on my face. " We made it, Armin." I said, the 5-year-old Elliot coming out of me.
"We did." He replied quietly and his voice trembled. He pulled away teary-eyed, but still smiling and pulled me around the deck jumping up and turning around as if taking part in some insane cult dance. I couldn't help but join him, holding both his hands and spinning around, dipping him like a damsel, my dress fluttering and my sunhat lost somewhere on the wooden floor, our laughter being carried away in the whipping wind.
