The late morning sun filtered through the gaps in the broken ceiling of the cavern, beams of lights hitting the crumbled ground.

Our footsteps crunched on broken crystal and dead leaves, echoing in the cave-like area.

Immediately as I saw the wounded man, leaning against a tree covered in his own blood, I rushed to his side, tears threatening to break the surface of my eyes.

"Kenny!" I yelled, though it only came out as a hoarse whisper. Levi followed closely behind me, warily watching where he was stepping.

I kneeled next to the man on the ground and sniffled. "Kenny, can you stand? I'll carry you back to the city!" I grabbed his forearm in a desperate attempt to get the man to stand up.

But he was defiant. "Elliot." Levi had caught up to us and kneeled as well, slightly concerned for the familiar man.

"Like I said, Levi. You haven't changed one bit." He then looked at me. "And neither have you." He mustered a weak smile, pinching a single strand of my lilac hair. "How special." He said. I tried to reciprocate the smile, to hide the pain in my expression.

He then pulled something out from behind his back. It was a box of the teal liquid in another syringe. I cringed and then my jaw went slack in shock.

Levi cleared his throat and spoke. "If you wanted to stay alive, I assume you would've injected that shit into you already."

"Don't think too deeply. I wasn't going to do it." Kenny said, weakly, blood dripping down his chin. "I'd rather die here than turn into one of those monsters. Heck, I get to be with Uri, now."

I had no idea who this 'Uri' person was, but he seemed like a very important person in Kenny's life. Like Eren to Mikasa; like Erwin to Levi; like Annie to me.

"But, I don't... wanna die." He said, suddenly and my eyes widened. "However... I see now."

Kenny gulped as he visualized the figure of the light-haired man kneeling at his feet, apologizing for something he had supposedly done. Kenny was his younger self again, holding a gun shakily to the man's head.

"I think I understand why he did it... after all this time."

Levi tilted his head, furrowing his brows. "Huh?" He asked, his tone stern, but his eyes giving away the slightest hint of concern.

Kenny breathed out a chuckle, hoarse and rough. "Everybody that I've met... were all the same." He said, opening his one good eye. "Drinking... women... God... family... the King... dreams... children. Everyone has to be drunk on something to keep pushing on. Everyone is... a slave to something. Even him."

He suddenly coughed out handfuls of blood onto the grass, causing Elliot to jump in surprise from her daze to place a hand on Kenny's shoulder.

"And you..." He pointed at Levi. "What are you? A hero?!" He hung his head, tiredly.

Levi then kneeled down and placed both hands roughly onto the other man's shoulders. "Kenny. Tell me everything you know! Why doesn't the first King want humanity to survive?!"

Kenny sighed. "Beats me." He muttered, his grey eyes staring limply into Levi's similar ones. "But we Ackermans... opposed him for that reason."

He suddenly winced and coughed out another mouthful of blood, it spraying on Levi's and Elliot's face. Elliot had to bite her lip hard to keep herself from crying. Please don't leave me. Not you too! She thought.
