"KJH?" Jeno repeated after the other.
Jaemin nodded. "That's what it said. But the number is invalid now. We can't track anything. That means it's obvious that KJH wanted to hide his or her identity."
"As far as I remember I don't know anyone who has those initials." Jeno said with all honesty.
"Maybe Meisoo knew someone?"
"That's a possibility. But I can assure you that she wasn't cheating on me. Its not like that. There must be something else."
"Look Jeno," Jaemin tried to explain. "No husband in this world is ready to accept their wife as a cheater. That's common human behaviour. So-"
"No, trust me. This isn't about cheating. There's no way."
Because he was so sure.
He knew Meisoo enough to say at least that much. The term love came a bit too late in between them. But that didn't mean one of them would cheat.
Again the reality hit him hard, that Mei wasn't alive anymore.
He was alone.
Without a wife, without a mother for his child.
Funny how from time to time he realised that his life was a sick joke.
"Sorry for brining this up. I know it's hard to talk about this topic but it's my job." Jaemin apologised as if he read Jeno's mind.
Jeno let out a small smile, shaking his head. "No worries. I know."
Few minutes passed and no one spoke.
Both kept staring at nowhere, only their legs almost touching as they were sitting on the couch much closer to eachother. Jaerin was asleep by Jeno's side, her head on his lap. His hand was gently patting her on the head.
The clock said ten fifteen in the night.
No one knew how time flew by that fast.
"Whether Meisoo betrayed you or not, however the way we word it, there is a person named KJH in her life. I thought you might know but seems like I was wrong." Jaemin started again. "Then there is Kang Jiwon."
Jeno stiffened up at the name.
"We can't contact him, nor get to him. Weird, if you ask me." Jaemin said with a pinch of sarcasm. "And I also know that you're trying to hide something."
"That's not-"
"Do you think any other detective would go this easy on you?"
A question that sounded too simple yet deep.
"You refused to have your house guarded, I said yes. You refused to have me in this case, I said yes. And you still refuse to tell me everything you know."
Jeno listened, his head down.
"Is it because we used to be friends or are you purposefully delaying the results of this case? You realise that this is a serious case, right?"
Jeno didn't speak.
"Things won't be this nice with the newly appointed one. I'm just giving you a heads up."
Took him few minutes to realise what Jaemin said.
Looking at the younger, his voice was filled with guilt. "You aren't gonna quit for real, are you?"
