"Mister police!" The girl ran up to him, smiling to the fullest after stopping infront of him. "Hello."
Adorable.
Jaemin could feel his heart melting. From the gestures to her words, everything about this girl was so heartwarming in Jaemin's eyes.
He too returned the smile, reminding himself that it was Jeno's daughter. He shouldn't get too attached.
"You remember me?" He asked, actually not knowing what to say.
"Of course I do! You helped me the other day."
Jaemin kept the same smile, wondering why the girl was this cheerful even in such a situation.
Before he could think more about it, Jeno came up to them and took the little girl's hand in his.
He didn't look good.
Crumpled white shirt, slightly messed up hair, darkened eyes and pinkish cheeks. He couldn't miss out the familiar smell of a specific drink too.
"Jaerin."
That's when he really payed attention to the name. He remembered people calling that name the other day but he simply shrugged it off.
Jaerin.
Even her name was pretty.
"Go help uncle Hyuck to prepare breakfast, hm?" Jeno finished.
"But what about mommy? Don't we have to wake her up?"
Jaemin's smile dropped as his eyes fixed on the two infront of him. He could see Jeno pulling up a smile.
She doesn't know yet?
"See, cupcake, mommy isn't home. Something came up and she had to leave in a hurry." Jeno was saying, that so called smile still up there. "She wanted to say goodbye to you but you weren't home, remember?"
The audacity.
Jaemin was suddenly triggered.
"Dad got a call from his work and he had to go quickly. But don't worry Nana, he'll be back. We can call him after some time."
"Mom? Why is dad not answering his phone?"
"He's busy baby, that's why. Let's try again tomorrow."
"Will he come to my birthday party? You said he promised to bring me a huge present this time."
"Hmm, I'll call and ask him."
"Jaemin listen-"
"I can't believe you ruined six years of my life with all those lies! How could you mom?!"
"Please listen to me-"
"I hate you."
