Miko
I could hear the whispers and the squeals wrap around us as I sat there, staring down at the golden-eyed boy that was looking up at me. He looked as shocked as I felt.
"Kaoru!" Hikaru pushed me off of his brother and got on his knees between us. "Are you okay?" I heard him ask. There was panic in his voice.
"I'm fine, Hikaru" Kaoru reassured his twin. There was a sigh of relief before Hikaru spun at me.
"What the hell were you thinking?! You could have seriously hurt him!" I took a minute to absorb the impact of his words before I answered. I knew he wasn't actually mad at me. He was just concerned.
"I tripped. I'm sorry Kaoru, are you okay?" I asked, looking around the older twin to look at the younger one that still looked as if he were in shock.
"Y-Yeah" He said, seeming to come out of a daze.
"That's it?! You tell him you're sorry and expect that to make it okay?!" Hikaru stood at his full height and towered over me. I didn't move, but glanced at the crowd that was before us.
I better get him out of their sights before he does something stupid. I reached out and grabbed Hikaru's wrist.
"What the-?! What are you doing?! Let me go!" I tightened my grip on his wrist as he tried to break free from it and dragged him behind one of the curtains that was lining the walls. "Why did you do that?!" He snapped.
"You were scaring everyone" I said calmly to him, making him stop. He crumpled into himself and guilt quickly flickered into his features. A lot of times, Hikaru reacted without thinking. He has no filter and whatever he's feeling ends up coming out whether he wanted it to or not.
I walked back to the curtain, knowing that he needed a distraction and took a handful of the fabric.
"Come on" I said, breaking the silence. "You don't want to miss this. It will make you feel better" He still didn't say anything but he came up behind me and we both stepped out. Thankfully, the crowd had turned their attention to another curtain not too far away.
Good. He hasn't stepped out yet. I found myself standing next to Kyoya as a crowd of girls waited anxiously for... um... "Haruhi"... to step out.
"You handled that situation well." Kyoya observed without looking away from the curtain before us. I didn't look at him, just focused on the backs of the girls.
"It's not my first rodeo" I said casually. I glanced over at the twins, who seemed to press into one another- as if a vulnerability now laid bare for all to see and they were trying to protect each other from it.
"I see." He said, pushing his glasses up his nose as if they were out of place. The curtain that everyone had been focusing on flew back, the sound of the metal rings clacking against the metal rod filled the anticipating quiet.
