Hey everyone!

Gosh it's been too long since I've published anything for this story. I promise it wasn't on purpose, but the break was definitely welcomed. It's so funny stepping back and working with these characters and this story again! I feel like my writing has changed quite a bit (for the better) and it's only glaringly obvious reading the scenes back 🤣

Also, in this chapter, the boys will be in dresses. I don't mean any harm, this does actually happen in the source material an d I had a lot of fun playing around with it!

Anyway, enjoy this chapter!

The traffic humming outside of Mr. Hitachiin's BMW was the only thing cutting into the silence. After relaying to him that I had accidentally left my phone behind and had no way of calling the family driver or ordering a ride share service, he immediately offered me a ride. There was no reason to say no- not when the only other option is to turn back and walk into the lion's den.

"Driving at night is soothing." Mr. Hitachiin said as we inched forward, stopping at a red light. "I prefer it to driving during the day" The comfortable steadiness of his tone of voice reminded me more of the younger Hitachiin twin than the older. "The music is usually better too" He reached over and turned on the radio, the tunes of the rock band now filling the once quiet space.

It still threw me off at how intimately Mr. Hitachiin referred to Mama in front of the restaurant. The way there was so much weight to his voice when he spoke her name made me think that they were, in some way, close.

"I hope my sons are treating you okay, Machiko. I know you had problems with them when you were younger" His dark gaze glanced at me for a second before refocusing on the road.

So, he knew about their torments.

"They're treating me better than before" I stated confidently. "In their own way" I didn't know if this statement would be too vague for the older gentleman. After all, it was unclear how much he actually knew about the twins' treatment of me.

"That's good, I would hate to have Isako's ghost haunt me if they were still treating you poorly." He laughed softly, the intimacy returning to his voice.

"That's the second time you've mentioned my mama by her first name" I stated, my fingers tugging at each other gently in my lap. "It's almost as if you knew her"

A contemplative look passed over Mr. Hitachiin's features as a sudden tension squeezed the air around us. It was like he was trying to figure out what to say, if he should provide details that I didn't have.
