Dr. Cassie Valentine put away the phone with a smirk. The man was brilliant but oh so easy to sway. Did he really think he stood a chance when she decided to bring out the big guns?
Really, after three years he should know better and just accept his fate.
"Well?" asked Sienna, looking expectantly.
"Chief Ramsey's schedule suddenly opened up," said Cassie with a grin. "Edenbrook's first Halloween Trick o' Treat Night in Pediatrics is going to be epic!"
Sienna squealed and clapped her hands in excitement, looking exactly like the light and carefree young intern Cassie had met on her first day at Edenbrook.
Her friend had been through the ringer, but she was finally finding her way back, Cassie thought with a smile.
"What's that look for?" asked Sienna with a puzzled smile.
"I just missed my fellow dolphin," replied Cassie. "This last year or so, well, it's like you weren't you anymore."
"I hear you," nodded Sienna in understanding. "I wish I hadn't wasted so much time before."
"It wasn't wasted, Si," said Cassie. "You wouldn't have been able to do this accelerated residency otherwise."
"That's exactly what Max..."
Sienna stopped, her face falling as she remembered the events of the last few weeks. Her friendship with Cassie's brother, Max, had just started heading towards something more when their private moment was broadcast on gossip site, HSTea. Other tabloids had circled and nasty, hateful messages from strangers online followed, making her go dark on social media.
Cassie squeezed her arm in comfort just as her pager went off.
"Duty calls," she said, checking the page that told her the Diagnostic Team's latest patient had just arrived. "See you later, Si."

Cassie let out a whistle as soon as Ethan got off the elevator on the pediatric floor.
"Hello, Chief Ramsey," she leered.
Her gaze was lascivious as she took in the gold and blue superhero costume that fit him to a T, accentuating the muscles in his arms and thighs.
She flushed when she saw how his eyes traced the curves that her own blue, red and gold costume emphasized. His gaze was slightly unfocused as it came to rest on her chest, his eyes darkening at the way the neckline of her tight costume hugged her breasts.
"Wanna make out?" she asked with a half smile.
"You know we're outside the pediatric ward, right? With a few dozen impressionable minds behind those doors?" he said, cocking one eyebrow.
