Marigold jerked her head upwards. An IceWing, she thought. Her brain was hurting from the feeling of the IceWing's brain. She stared right up into her eyes. Quartz seemed to feel the tug too, as he looked upwards at the same time as her. His eyes glittered with unease. Where did she come from? And who is she? For all we know, she might be working for that assassin Nova! He glared at the IceWing while talking to Marigold in his head. The glittering IceWing hovered just over them, suspicion glinting in her ice blue gaze. "Who are you?" she demanded. "None of your business," snapped Quartz, furiously matching what he was thinking.
"Who are you?" Marigold retorted. Quartz was right. They couldn't trust an IceWings anymore. They were killing her tribemates. The IceWing frowned, probably shocked that lazy RainWings could ask such direct questions. But the IceWing didn't seem bothered about giving away her information. "I'm Lynx," she growled.
"Have you seen anyone called Nova?" Lynx asked.
"No, why?" Marigold blinked at the question. That meant Lynx was trying to find her too! But for what reason? Her brain muttered. She pushed any bad assumptions about Lynx out of her mind. They were both on the same side, they both wanted to find Nova.
Marigold looked over at Quartz. The NightWing still seemed suspicious of Lynx, glaring at her mutinously. How do we trust her? She's looking for someone that is killing RainWings! Quartz stared at her as if she had two tails. Well, she might not know what Nova has done, argued Marigold.
Hey, she's not that bad, Marigold thought to her friend, in an attempt to reassure him. I can't believe you're thinking that! You don't even know who she is! Quartz roared back in his head.
Hmm, I still don't believe you. Quartz shook his head at her.
Lynx narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Are you two having a conversation in your heads?" she inquired icily.
Marigold was taken aback. "H-how did you know we were mind readers?" Marigold stammered confusedly.
"You have teardrop scales next to your eyes," muttered Lynx. "All mind readers have that."
Marigold stared at Quartz, who shrugged, as if to say, everyone knows that. Even IceWings? she questioned silently. I guess so. She knew, Quartz answered.
"Anyway, what are you doing here?" Lynx asked. "Long story," Quartz quickly covered up. Marigold looked at him in annoyance. He knew that she was looking for Nova. He obviously didn't trust this IceWing.
Lynx huffed, clearly annoyed that they didn't trust her. Marigold felt sorry for her, although she knew Quartz was right; they couldn't afford to trust anyone just yet. "Why are you here?" Marigold asked curiously. The IceWing exhaled, frosty smoke pouring out of her nostrils. "I'm looking for someone," she finally replied. "Someone called Nova?" Marigold questioned. Lynx nodded, her blue eyes filled with sadness.
"Yes, her name is Nova. She's my sister."
