- july 2019, summer

the cold fall air brushed through the boy's cheeks as his tears started drying out. oh how the boy would love to stop crying just for a second. but the memories of his mother kept flowing in. how the two would have fun together in movie nights, how his mother would cook delicious food for him everytime he was about to go to school. thankfully, it was the semester break, so he had more time to stay at his mother's grave.

it was his routine now. every friday before going to school, he'll visit his mother's grave early morning. although living with his well-off uncle made his life slightly easier, he wasn't a really happy kid inside.

"mom, i hope you're happy up there right now. i'm doing fine with uncle johnny and school's well. i'll stay with you longer." he said and placed his palm to his cheeks to wipe all the wet stuff coming out of his eyes. he took a deep breath and exhaled it harshly. a smile crept up at his face at the one memory of his mother and him, where he would get tickled if he kept playing outside in the dirty and muddy garden with his friends. one thing he loved about his mother, she never got mad at him. and sadly, donghyuck just noticed it when the visions flashed before his eyes. she always handled him with kindness and love, not anger and physique.

donghyuck is 19 now, the last year of highschool. he was one of the most brightest student in his highschool and was loved by almost all teachers with his lovely and cheeky but funny personality. everyone wouldn't have known if it weren't for the teachers that found out through his background that a tragedy happened to him.

after a few minutes of admiring his mother's framed picture on the grave, donghyuck gave a last small smile before standing up and dusting the dry grass off of his pants. he took his phone and called his uncle to come pick him up.

the ride home was normal, donghyuck felt hungry so the two visited a fast food restaurant to eat for a bit. then they finally went home, donghyuck running up to his room and flopped his body on his bed. just when his eyes were about to close, his phone rang loudly, making him jump off of his bed and landed butt first.

"fuck." he cursed and rubbed his buttcheeks before looking at the caller id.
"oh god."

"hi!"  the cheerful voice greeted him through the other line, making dongyuck giggle.

"calling me so suddenly? miss me, don't you?" the boy from the other line chuckled loudly and sighed.

"i won't deny that but i won't say yes either."

"sometimes i don't get your words, mr. wise. perhaps you got that from your dear boyfriend?" the tanned male teased his friend through the call. he knew at this moment, that dear friend of his is currently in bed cuddling with his boyfriend whom he loved so much he'd brag about the buff boy of his.

"hey anyways," he changed the topic, "since school is starting soon, why don't we go have some fun for a bit? you know, go to the arcade and stuff."

donghyuck's eyes widen at the offer. "heck yeah!"

and that's how he, jeno, and jaemin gathered up in front of the arcade in the mall that evening and rushed inside, jeno just following close behind his boyfriend.

"let's play this!" donghyuck pointed to the basketball machine and jaemin huffed.

"you're always good at that. i won't try." the brunette then crossed his arms and looked away. donghyuck bursts into laughter at how childish his friend jaemin might look now.
"i'll go easy on you, jaem. i'm not that competitive."

"fine." the boy groaned and slide the card to the counter to start playing. but just as they started, jeno pushed jaemin away and started playing which caught donghyuck completely off guard.

"what the heck dude?!" he shrieked while peeking over to jeno's side just to see his points were way higher than himself. jaemin in the side can only watch in fascination and laughed out loud at donghyuck's panicked state.

they then got over it and played more shooting and racing games before deciding on eating dinner to fill their stomachs. after it's filled well, they went for a walk outside of the mall and admired the starry night. he saw one bright star and smiled widely at it, knowing that probably his mother is watching over him.

"what's gotten into you, hyuck?" jeno asked with a pat on the tanned male's shoulder and got a sigh in reply.

"nothing. just glad for today. we played for a few hours and man, that was probably a high score of mine in the arcade."

"5 hours sure is a milestone." the three then giggled through the cold night and bumped each other's shoulders before bidding their goodbyes, donghyuck riding a taxi home as his uncle went to his office for emergency.

he jumped into the shower and rubbed off all the sweat he had, choosing an over-sized white shirt and basketball shorts after he got out of the tub of warm water. he laid on his bed back first and closed his eyes tightly, only to open it again when he heard his door open.

"had fun at the mall?" his uncle peeked from the door with a cheeky smile. donghyuck rolled his eyes playfully and nodded.
"well then, have a good rest. i'll see you tomorrow morning."

donghyuck then  pulled the covers to cover his body and he turned off his night lamp, closing his eyes
