"markie! markie!" the voice of young donghyuck in the orphanage playground was heard by the older boy who sat at the small swing, calmly pushing his feet off of the ground to let the swing sway him. he looked over at the boy who stumbled upon his steps and reaching to him with a giggle.
"i found a baby ant and its mother!" the younger said as he showing before ball-ed hands to mark who looked at him with a cold look.
"let them go, you're suffocating them." he finally said and left the swing, leaving donghyuck alone and speechless. he then obeyed mark's words and let the ants go, running over to mark's side again. but what he got was a cold glare from the taller male.
"why are you following me?"
"because i don't know where to go. and i only know you in this place. uncle johnny says he will be back soon. i'm sorry if i have to leave early." the boy frowned while the other scoffed at his innocence. he just shook his head and went inside the building to go to his bed.
"who will pick you up, markie?"
"no one."
"how come?"
"i don't know, don't ask me." mark said and leaned his back on the headboard and took out a sheet of paper with lined on it which interested donghyuck a lot.
"but you won't stay here for long right? miss wendy says there are creepy things here so we need to stay near our trusted ones." donghyuck giggled as he skipped his way to mark's side.
"what's that?"
"a music score."
"what's a music score?" this time, mark had enough with all of the boy's words and distractions. he wanted to just hit and shout at him so bad, telling him what a bother he is to himself. but he held himself down and chose other words.
"can you just play with your other friends and not bother me?!" well that came too strong either. donghyuck flinched at the raised voice of who he considered as his best friend and curled into a small ball.
"i-i'm sorry." he said and ran out the door. and mark was sure that he saw tears pricking on the younger's eyes.
"he'll be fine, although he lost his sight. he's one strong boy who can get over all this under control. donghyuck will have to stay at the hospital for another week since we're going to give him treatments and some therapy as he might experience trauma after the accident." the young adult heard the soft voice of the doctor talking to his uncle as he slowly woke up and went into realization. his heartbeat quicken and his breath shorten.
"uncle? uncle johnny? am i closing my eyes?" he asked as he steadily sat up from the hospital bed, feeling his head spin again as well as his temple on fire. he groaned in annoyance.
"donghyuck, lean down and we'll talk in a bit okay?" johnny said as he approached the boy who tried to reach around as if to find something. he sighed and put his hands on his shoulders which the younger took it aggressively, grasping onto it until his knuckles were white.
"uncle johnny?"
"yes hyuckie?"
"don't leave me. what's happening with me? why can't i see anything?" his voice raise each sentence as he panicked even more. it was true, that all donghyuck was seeing was jet black and he felt soft cottons and a bandage over it. he couldn't see at all. and that was when he heard footsteps leave, assuming it was the doctor as he heard him excusing himself. he felt a warmth around his shoulders from johnny's arms.
"hyuck, don't panic and listen to me, alright?" the boy nodded slowly in doubt. johnny smiled at that and sighed, not wanting to explain it but he had to so his nephew would understand.
"you remember the car crash yesterday?""y-yeah?"
"well, something happened and honestly i don't know and want to say this but, your eyes were damaged and you..."
"i'm blind, am i?" donghyuck finished those words when he heard johnny stopping in doubt. he looked down (tilt his head down as he couldn't see sdjdk) and let out a shaky breath, letting johnny hug him tighter.
"look hyuck, everything's going to be okay, hm?"
"how, uncle? you're going to be busy everyday with a new project coming up with the Lees and who's going to take care of me? i heard the project is going to take months to do, won't it?" the older male hugged his nephew tighter as he heard the boy's sniffles that signaled that he was at the verge of crying.
"i'll try my best. really. and plus, you're 19 and you're almost graduating in a bit! you're a big boy already and i'm so proud of you." johnny released his hug and went to touch the latter's cheeks with care, making donghyuck lean against it.
he had to be honest, donghyuck, that he was scared. so many questions ran around his mind in laps, overlapping with other thoughts and bad scenarios. he was scared to be alone without anyone by his side and not being able to see anything at all. he questioned himself if he would be able to see again or not in the end or will he be blind forever? he knew that the choice in going out in a sick state wasn't the greatest choice. but now he regretted it the most.
"i'll stay with you until dinner time and i'll have to go, alright? the curfew's at 7 for visitors." the older said as he stood up and grabbed his phone to play some music.
"you can hear clearer, don't you?"donghyuck giggled at this and nodded, starting to dance to the song which happened to be one of his favorites by michael jackson. he started dancing with his hands to the groove but got tired soon and just nodded his head to the beat.
he was thankful for johnny who stayed by his side ever since he was a young teen. but what could lie in the future for him at this state? nothing but danger and fear, won't it?
