"Dude, we're so late," Will Jones said, panic laced in his voice. The assassin's fingers tapped impatiently on the dashboard as his best friend and co-worker of two years, Liam Reed, drove the car beside him.
"Hey, hey, relax! We're almost there," Liam said, trying to calm his best friend down. They were only 5 minutes late and Liam knew that Diaz wouldn't mind that much.
As Liam said, they soon arrived in front of a familiar huge mansion. Liam parked his car and got out, Will doing the same.
"C'mon, man, let's go!" Will said as he started running towards the front door.
The windows of the mansion were all closed shut, meaning that the meeting might have already started. Liam's previous calm demeanor disappeared, he was now slightly panicking too. Liam was usually on time and never late, but his boss, Jonah Diaz, called a meeting so suddenly. Liam didn't know what was so urgent that Diaz wanted them over as soon as possible.
Finally, Liam entered the mansion and wasted no time to make his way to the meeting room. Once the 23 year-old arrived, he pushed the black doors open and the familiar room came into view. Liam immediately saw all of his co-workers sitting at the table with Diaz sitting at the far corner and the projector was already on.
"Shoot," Liam said under his breath and quickly took a seat beside Will. Liam tried to ignore the stares his co-workers gave him and Will.
"Thank you all for coming. I'm sorry that I called a meeting so suddenly but there is news that I need to share with all of you," Diaz started, his piercing blue eyes looking around at everyone in the room, including his assistant who sat beside him.
"My wife has been murdered."
Everyone's eyes widened and gasps were heard. Liam looked around, everyone was in shock and disbelief. Surely, no one expected to hear this.
"What!?" One of Liam's co-workers, Jared Smith, commented.
"Who murdered her?" Katy Williams asked Diaz.
The only one who didn't react was Diaz's assistant, Ben Anderson, who obviously already knew about the news judging by his reaction.
"That, Williams, is what we're going to be talking about at today's meeting. This footage was caught yesterday, Eloise Diaz was alone in the house," Anderson replied as he clicked a button on his computer before the projector showed a paused video. He then pressed play.
The screen then played a CCTV footage, showing a familiar dining room. The dining room in this house. Silence fell around the room as everyone focused on the video.
The video showed Eloise Diaz eating peacefully at the table for a couple of seconds before suddenly, her head dropped onto her plate before her body moved sideways and off the dining chair.
"At exactly 10 AM sharp, someone shot her in the head through an open window behind her," Anderson said.
The screen then showed a picture of a man dressed in black with a hat and sunglasses hiding his face, casually walking down the sidewalk. "This is the man who murdered Ms. Diaz."
"We tried to track him down and find out where he currently is but we lost him. We don't know who or where this man is," Anderson said before he clicked on a button on his computer and the screen then showed another CCTV footage of the same man talking to a young woman.
"He was seen walking out of a house with this woman a couple of minutes before he murdered Diaz."
The girl looked young, maybe Liam's age. She had long straight hair and wore a simple white tank top and short jeans. The footage showed the two sharing a hug before the man walked away as the girl walked back into the house.
"We found out this girl's identity," Anderson explained and the projector showed a picture of the girl. The picture showed a young girl smiling into the camera, her piercing blue eyes looking directly at it.
"Her name is Chelsea Miller. She's a 23 year old woman and works part-time at a local coffee shop called 'Dave's Place'," Anderson explained. "That was her house."
"Reed, I am giving you a mission," Diaz said, taking Liam off guard once he said his last name.
"Me?" Liam said.
"Yes, you, stupid," Will whispered to Liam as he shoved Liam's arm.
"Since you are Miller's age and you're one of my trustworthy workers, I feel like you're the perfect guy to do this mission. I want you to gain Miller's trust and find out who the guy is," Diaz ordered in a low demanding tone, looking deadly in the eye at Liam.
This was new to Liam as he had never got such a mission. Ever since he had joined this secret assassin gang, missions that Diaz usually gave to his gang was to assassinate people.
The gang contained a small group of people. 7 trained assassins who work for Diaz, 4 boys and 3 girls. Of course, Liam was one of them. Diaz would get clients and then tell one of his gang to do what the client wants. And of course, if the mission was accomplished, whoever did it gets paid a large sum of money.
"I want to find this man. I need to find this man," Diaz said with pure determination and revenge laced in his voice, although it seemed like he was talking to himself.
"Maybe we should get the police involved?" Leah Turner, one of Liam's coworkers, suggested.
"I don't want to get the police involved. Liam, will you do this mission?" Diaz replied before asking Liam.
Liam had a feeling that even if he said no, Diaz would still force him into doing the mission. He had never seen Diaz in this desperate state, had never seen him so angry.
"Yes. I will do the mission," Liam answered unhesitatingly.
Diaz is counting on me, Liam thought, She's my mission and I'm not letting him down. Liam tried to shake off the worries, maybe it wouldn't be so hard.
"Sir? What will you do once we find the man?" Connor Green, another one of Liam's coworkers, asked curiously.
Diaz stayed silent for a few seconds before answering Green.
"I will kill him."
