"Let's go to the bathroom. Come on..."
Stefania holding onto her lovers hand. Tenderly rubbing the palm with her thumb while guiding her through the hoards of people. Bodies shimmering side to side. Protecting her from the drunks who bash loudly through their unaware space. Taking her upstairs where the music fades out into the background. Their ears adjusting to the new volume by sounds of sharp ringing.
The toilets were vacant having just collided with a group of girls leaving them. Empty alcohol bottles sit on the surfaces of the bathroom sinks. Smelling a concoction of vodka and hand-soap on their arrival. Mirrors hanging across the left-hand side of the wall and the cubicles to the right.
Stefania stands the blonde in front of her. Wiping away the teardrops that fall down onto her cheeks with the pad on her thumb.
Danielle can't help but feel panicky. Her breathing intensifying as she wills herself of anxious thoughts. Why did she feel this way? She hasn't felt this way before.
"Look at me only. Okay?" Stefania reassures the blonde as she notices her eyes drifting in panic. "Take a deep breathe for me? You are safe with me..."
The blonde takes a deep breathe. Whispering a thanks under her barely audible inhale. Memorising the patterns in which her girlfriend opposite her breathes. Copying the rhythm of her chest falling and rising.
"Zach just got too close to me... it kind of scared me, you know?" Her lips tremble as she speaks softly. The blondes eyes falling to her shoes as her breathing rectifies. "I didn't want him to ruin our night..."
"I know, bambina." The brunette rubs her hands on her girlfriends arm, trying to keep her calm while gazing into her beautiful crystals. "I will do everything in my power to always protect you."
"You saved me..." Danielle stops crying and instead reciprocates the intense eye-contact. "That night of the accident... you stayed by me the entire time and made sure I was okay. Why? You didn't have to... but you did."
"Because I couldn't just leave you. There was something about you..." The brunette bites her bottom lip in attempts to delay the tears threatening her eyes. "Even though the circumstances were absolutely horrendous; it almost felt like I was supposed to be there. To save you. Do you believe in fate?"
"After meeting you— yes. I'm glad that it was you who saved me. It doesn't end there either..." Danielle breathes slowly, composing herself by standing up straight. Both women completely lost in each other. Tucking strands of her hair behind her ears and tenderly shaking herself to rid the nerves. "I am so in love with you, Stefania."
The Italian takes a sudden step back as if her legs had turned to jelly. Pausing her own breathing as she holds onto the rim of the bathroom sink.
"—I understand if you aren't there yet... but I just wanted you to know that I love you. I'm sorry if—" Danielle says in a panic, realising she had caught her girlfriend off-guard.
"No, no..." Stefania interferes, stepping forward after regaining her balance, taking her hand onto the blondes chin, grazing her finger along her smooth jawline. Feeling her heart explode with nothing just joy. "I love you too."
Danielle leans in to kiss her girlfriend. Butterflies invading her stomach - this kiss felt different, like she had been longing for this moment her whole life and it was finally here. Her body felt like nothing and everything all at once. That she could live here forever with her girlfriend and everything would be okay.
"I'm sorry— I should have thought about the location before I told you that." Danielle looks down shyly. Her cheeks filled with love and lust. "I just couldn't hold it in anymore..."
