Chapter 21

"The breeze from the ocean is so nice" Katsumi said as she leaned against the rails on the bridge. Sakura yawned and stretched her arms out wide.

"Looks like you two got some time to kill," Tazuna said, walking by the girls " what happened to the boys?" He asked

"They're in the middle of the tree climbing training." Katsumi answered with a nervous chuckle.

"I see, and you two don't have to do that?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

"We happen to be the exception, so Kakashi sensei told us to guard you." Sakura said proudly.

Katsumi walked by her side and nodded her head in agreement. She heard someone approach the bridge builder asking him if they could talk. The two men walked off out of earshot from the girls.

"Hmm, I wonder what they're saying." Sakura said as she looked at them.

Katsumi frowned "The man is asking Tazuna if he could quit"

Sakura turned her head at her teammate then back to the bridge builder. "W-what? H-how can you hear that well." Sakura asked, clearly confused.

"My dad said my hearing has always been very sharp. I guess it's because of my lack of sight that allows my other senses to be better.... If that makes any sense. It's why I have so many bells, so I can see." Katsumi told Sakura with her hand over her chin in a thinking manner.

"Ahh, I think I get it. Is it hard? Ya know, to live like that" Sakura asked.

Katsumi closed her eyes and thought about it "Sometimes, I really wish I knew what my crush looks like. Apparently, he's known as the leaf's handsome devil. Other than that I guess I'm fine with it." The girl responded with a closed-eyed smile.

Before Sakura asked another question the two girls turned their attention to Tazuna.

Katsumi leaned into Sakura's ear "He told him not to come back tomorrow. Not in a mean way though. He understood the fear of the worker" she whispered.

"Excuse me Tazuna. Where are we going" Katsumi asked as she shook her staff from time to time doing her best to not bump into people. The girl heard many sounds, from people selling things to the sounds of many boats. It was a pleasant experience.

"I was asked to get some ingredients for dinner on the way home." Tazuna said, looking down at the girl. He noticed the child jump a bit in reaction to someone yelling "thief!"

The three walked into a store. Katsumi tilted her head in confusion. Shouldn't there be more noise in a place where they sell produce.

"Pervert!" Sakura yelled.

Katsumi shook a bit. The sudden noise caught her very off guard.

After Tazuna bought the groceries, the three of them began walking back to the house when suddenly, Katsumi felt someone grab the back of her clothes.

"S-sakura, is that you?" Katsumi asked, a bit fearful. What if the same guy from earlier came back, but this time he was after her.

" Why you-" Sakura was about ready to kick another man, but when she turned around the little boy let go of Katsumi's clothes.

"Who is it Sakura?" Katsumi asked, turning around herself.

"Can I have some?" said the little boy.

Katsumi looked down to where she last heard the child. 'Oh, i think i get it'

"Ahh y-yes of course" Katsumi quickly reached into her pouch and pulled out a bag of bbq chips. "Here you go, these are my favorit." The girl said with a smile.
