As I'm walking back to my apartment from Bucky's, I get ambushed by Hydra agents. I fight them all. After I make sure they're all dead or unconscious, I rush back to Bucky's.
"Bucky, I was just ambushed by Hydra. We gotta get you out of here," I tell him through the door. "Pack a bag. You're coming with me."
"Where are we going?" he asks, checking for any injuries I may have.
"I don't know. Somewhere far from here," I answer as I help him pack.
He finishes packing and we go outside to look for a car. I find one, pick the lock, hotwire it, and we leave. We start heading northwest, towards Seattle.
"We're going to a big city? Won't cities be the first place they look?" he questions.
"Bucky, you know they'd look in small towns before big cities," I reply.
He nods and stares out the window. After hours of driving, I decide I need to take a rest stop and pull off the highway. I fill up the gas tank then go to the bathroom.
"We probably need to cut your hair off," I say as I get in the car.
"Okay, do you have scissors?"
"No, but there's a Walmart down the road. I'll get you some razors and scissors."
"Should I stay in the car?"
"Yes, but hide your face. And keep the doors locked."
I go in the Walmart to get everything we need, including hair dye and some clothes for me. I pay for everything and hurry back to the car.
"I'll cut it when we get a room. I hope you don't mind staying in the same room as me."
Bucky shakes his head and stares out the window. We get to a Holiday Inn and I get us a room. Then, I pull the car around back so no one sees me with three bags from Walmart.
I go to start cutting Bucky's hair and he flinches before I can grab a lock. "Are you okay?" I ask, concerned I cut him or something.
"I'm sorry, the only time anybody ever touched me was when I was being punished," he answers.
"It's okay, I won't hurt you. I'll try to go as fast as I can," I tell him, putting my hand gently on his shoulder.
"So do you remember anything?" I ask, making conversation. He finally let me start cutting his hair without flinching.
"Sometimes I have memories of Captain... Steve but I have a hard time remembering them," he replies.
"Yeah, I'd think so. I can't even remember what I had for breakfast yesterday."
Bucky just laughs then stares off into space. I leave the conversation hanging because I don't want to bother him. I finish up with his hair then we go sit and watch ESPN.
He looks confused about basketball. "What is this?"
"It's basketball. They shoot in the basket to score," I explain.
"But why are they doing that?" he asks when he sees Lebron James dunk.
"That's dunking, you can score by getting it in the basket."
"Thank you, Katarina."
"For what? I just explained basketball. I didn't really do anything. Oh and call me Kat."
"Okay, Kat."
I grin at him and look for food. "So, I don't think there's any food here. I'm going to the store if you'd like to come with."
