The sunshine that streamed in through the open window had roused Mycroft from the deep slumber he had been enjoying in the thick down covers of the king-size bed in the master bedroom. The bed sat in the middle of the bedroom that was decorated in soft white. On the walls, various pictures hung proudly displaying some of his best memories. His and Tara's vow renewal, their honeymoon, Tara's baby shower, the twins when they were just born, the twins crawling, Mycroft teaching the twins to walk by making them stand on his feet, Tara teaching them Kathak, etc.

Mycroft had hoped to drift back into sleep but found his hopes crushed when the little body of a three-year-old landed on top of him

Mycroft had hoped to drift back into sleep but found his hopes crushed when the little body of a three-year-old landed on top of him. Mycroft grunted in response to the weight that fell on him with full force and groggily opened his eyes to peer up at his daughter, 'What do you want, child?' he asked in a voice that was not sincerely gruff.

The dark-haired girl laughed and slipped quickly from the bed to land on her soft feet on the hardwood floor, 'Mommy says, breakfast is ready' she informed and ran away. It only took her a few seconds to realize that she had completely forgotten why she was so eager to see her father that morning. The dark-haired girl ran back into the bedroom, 'Happy Birthday, Daddy!' she whispered and pressed a kiss on her sleeping father's cheek, wanting to be the first one to wish him. Only she didn't know her mother had already wished him the previous night and had given him a special gift. The gift being the reason he was sleeping in that day.

Slowly, Mycroft rolled onto his side to look towards the open bedroom door just in time to see his daughter rush outside, clutching her beloved goldfish plushie. He smiled as he watched her and even after she was out of sight.

It took a few minutes, but Mycroft eventually hoisted himself from the bed to get dressed and join his family in the kitchen. Tara stood in front of the kitchen stove wearing an apron over her white silk pajamas as she flipped chocolate chip pancakes shaped like Mickey Mouse on to a plate. His wake-up call already stuffing her mouth with chocolate chip pancakes and her twin running around the kitchen island in her underwear. Mycroft watched the whole scene with a placid smile. Maybe his kids were spending way too much time with his brother and the Watson brat.
