4 days had passed since Flippy's and Flaky's walk in the park and they had barely seen each other since the diner explosion night. Not only was the porcupine keeping her natural distance from the bear like she normally would, but the veteran was trying to stay away from everyone, though he was most worried about the shy one. He still blamed himself for what happened to her in the car accident. After that, he didn't want to hurt or be near anyone ever again.
Anytime Flippy saw Flaky, he would walk in the opposite direction while if she saw him, she would run away or stay still. But as the days went on and on, she contacted Toothy and she said she was happy that Flippy was giving her space, but at the same time, she was scared that he was now afraid of her as well. The purple beaver told her the best way to solve things like this was for them to talk. Flaky thanked Toothy for the advice and hung up.
"Talk?! How am I supposed to talk to him if we're now afraid of each other?!" Flaky panicked, but she got an idea. She grabbed a piece of paper and wrote a letter to him asking if they could meet up somewhere. She sealed it in an envelope and peeked to make sure that the outside was okay, then put her message in her mailbox and stuck the flag up.
