Hogwarts sixth year
1971
-"I still don't think this is a good idea"
Remus mumbled nervously, anxiously pacing around the room of the shrieking shack.
It was an abandoned house that had been used by Lettie before him when she turned every month, the only way in was through a tunnel under the killing machine called the whomping willow, Remus had almost cried when he was lead towards it and told where they needed to go was just under the spiralling branches.
That tree was a whole safety hazard.
McGonagall and Madame Pomfrey stood by the large door of the shack as they watched the young boy pace and Daisy try to calm him, she was better at what she did then they were. If anything they were the backup in this situation, Daisy had experience on what to do and how to help, she had been face to face with a werewolf on every full moon for two years.
"Rem trust me, I've done this loads of times" after hours of Remus disagreeing, Daisy had finally convinced him to let her stay with him. She had promised him that all would be okay and he had been shocked when he found out that she could turn into an animal to stay safe, that had been the only reason he agreed.
"What if I attack you?" His eyes were teary, looking at the vicious marks on her exposed arm. What if he caused more scars on her body? What if he caused worse? He didn't know exactly how she got those but he knew they were from the werewolf she knew, what if she had promised to stay with that wolf one time and ended up being attacked? He couldn't do that to her. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he hurt her when she tried to help him.
"You won't. Werewolves actually tend to love me when I shift" Daisy tried to lighten the mood, although her statement was actually very true. Letties wolf had adored her when in animagus form, she was large enough to keep up with her playfulness without getting hurt and she wasn't a prey animal so there was no instinct to attack.
"What are you again?" Remus asked, already forgetting what she had told him she was with the nerves taking over his body.
"You'll see" the sixth year grinned.
"Alright, the moon will hit its apex soon. That is when the whole transformation starts, yes?" McGonagall checked her compass that showed the moons rising point, it was when it hit its highest point in the sky that the transformation began, and that was only around half an hour away- barely even that.
"Yes" Daisy answered for Remus who was breathing heavily, sweat coating his body despite him feeling like he was freezing.
"We should be off then, shout if anything goes wrong" Madame Pomfrey wasn't sure about this herself but she also trusted Daisy's judgement, she knew what to do if the situation got dangerous.
"I will"
"Stay safe, both of you" McGonagalls tone was motherly and stern, worry and pity evident on her features. Remus didn't want to see it, he hated pity more than anything, he hated feeling sorry for himself.
They closed the large door, the sound of many bolts and heavy chains to lock it being heard.
There was no getting out now.
"I don't like this, you should leave too" the young boy shook his head, the feeling of the monster within clawing to get out itching towards the surface. He'd never been so close to someone when that happened, he was always on his own and her being there scared him.
"No" she shook her head, walking up to him.
"Why are you helping me?" He asked, tears welling up in his eyes as his gums and fingernails started to ache painfully. It was starting to hurt now.
