"Hey Casey."
I stuff my bike lock into my bag and look up, "What?" I ask my friend,
"Tomorrow is Halloween."
"And?" I ask,
"I have a dare." She says,
"What is the dare?" I ask,
"You got to spend the night at Redfern Cemetery."
Redfern was the oldest cemetery in town, no one uses it anymore and it's mostly forgotten about. The last person to be buried there was in 1958.
"I don't know." I toss a leg over my bike, "How much you paying?" I tease,
"Well my dad is back in town so I'll give you twenty if you stay the night." She informs grinning, she looked paler more translucent. Must be getting sicker.
Twenty was a lot of money for tween. I shake her hand, "Consider it a deal."
We shook hands and biked to the cemetery. I hide my bike in the shrubbery and climb over the broken worn fence. It rips my the side of jeans but I didn't care. I could patch it up tomorrow.
I wander around the cemetery reading off the names and such. Soon it grows dark and I find a nice willow tree to lie under. I look at the grave beside of me, "Neil O'Harris."
Barely turned 12 when he died such a shame, I'm older than he'll ever be and that makes me feel even sadder.I try and get some sleep but I'm tossing and turning in my sleeping bag. Horrid nightmares haunted me, and I only got a few hours of sleep. I wanted the comfort of my mother, or my grandfather. I just wanted some comfort.
I sit on the hill under the little willow tree and watch the sunrise. I wait for my friend to arrive, soon its 1PM and I've eaten all my snacks. I wipe my hands on my jeans and pack up. I walk down the dirt path and to the fence. I can't grab it. I can't touch. No matter how much I try and try, the fence seemingly gets further and further away. I begin to panic, the wind starts picking up. Leaves and trash flutter by. A paper lands at my feet. Something tells me to pick it up, staring back at me is myself. Above my head reads "Missing".
I scan the paper and the wind carries me to a newer patch of land. I'm staring at my own grave.
"Casey Andrew Barter September 5th, 1976 - October 30th 1989.
Beloved son and brother.
Planted here on earth to bloom in heaven."
I scream and fall to my knees the wind howls in my ears. Things go black...
"Hey Casey."
I stuff my bike lock into my bag and look up, "What?" I ask my friend,
"Tomorrow is Halloween..."

31 Days Of Halloween
Kinh dị(+18) Just a thing I'm doing on Tumblr with a friend. 31 Days of Halloween I have a word each day and I write a short story on it. Sometimes horror sometimes not. Day 1 is missing since it was just a drawing but the idea is still there. 😃
