Chapter 20
~Danielle's POV~
I walked out to the garage and opened the over head door. I walked over to my quad and pushed it outside. I wanted to be ready for when dustin came to pick me up. I still had to get dressed but that wouldn't take me very long.
I walked back inside to be brought in a hug by my mom.
"I'm so proud of you Danielle. Your dad would be to." I smiled thinking that if im good enough I could meet my dad. "Now go get ready." I nodded my head and walked upstairs.
I grabbed a pair of spandex, socks and a tank top and changed into them. Then I pulled my pants and jersey on. The rest of my gear was in a bag out by my fourwheeler.
I sat im my computer chair and worked on hiding my hair under Dustins hat. Hopefully this is the last time I have to do this. It was hard to disguise myself.
My mom knocked on my open door. I told her to come in and she sat down beside me. Her smile turned reassuring.
"He's just tying to protect you honey." My mom grabbed a lock of hair and pinned it up.
"I know mom and im really glad that he's looking after me. I just can't wait to show who I really am." She grabbed Dustins hat and placed it on my head. "His brother died today so that stresses us both out more." My mom rubbed my back.
"Everything's going to be ok sweetie." I nodded my head and thought about the race today. "We will be their in the stands." She got up and walked to my door. "Dustins here and so is Maddy." I walked outside and drove my quad up in the bed of Dustins truck.
He didn't say much and I knew it was why what happened many years ago on this day. I grabbed his hand in the truck and squeezed his hand.
"I'm here for you baby." He nodded his head and pulled out of my driveway. I didn't say anything else until we got to the track. Even then dustin separated himself from the group.
The guys were getting ready for their first race when Jason came over to me. I don't know where dustin was at.
"I know your worried but don't be. Everything is going to be ok. He just gets like this, Monday he will be a little better." I nodded my head and made sure nobody else was around.
"Jason I trust you but I'm still worried. I'll guess I'll just give him space for the next couple days." He nodded his head and gave me a sympathetic smile.
"I know how it is and it's hard for us all, we were all close to him." I nodded my head and moved my gloves over to my other hand.
"Just remember im always here for anybody who wants to talk." He nodded his head in understanding.
"Thanks Danielle." I smiled and he walked over to his fourwheeler. The guys started appearing slow and steadily all bummed out. Today seamed like a sad day.
I stood behind the fence while Maddy ran the pit board and waited for in between races to talk to her. Today their is a class between the guys and mine.
"Three years ago today their was an accident that took a life of one of our dearest riders. So today as in memory of Braden Myers the quad racing classes will be racing an extra lap in memory of his riding. Would everybody please take a few seconds of silence to remember the life that was taken away." The announcers voice started cracking and you could tell that Braden meant something to him.
Peoples heads lowered as they were silent. You could hear fourwheeler and dirtbikes shut off and everything was quite. A few moments passed then the PA system started speaking. "Thank you."
