The room grew eerily quiet after whatever spell pomegranate used wore off, leaving a pit in my stomach. I sat outside the door, listening closely to the sound of hushed voices. Oh god, is Dark choco dead? I should've stopped her, I should've done something-

The door opened quietly as pomegranate cookie stepped out. I held my breath as she passed, leaving the building and ignoring me. Her steps grow quiet as they go out and of earshot and I let myself breathe, a big sigh escaping. Leaning over I peek inside the dark room. Dark choco stands alone, mumbling to himself. His shoulder pads and cloak seem to consume him as he hunches over, head hung low. The red lights flickered.

Fuck, what happened in there?? Pom didn't even spare a glance my way, so clearly something big happened if she doesn't have time to make fun of me. I push open the door and step inside. Slowly I go over, the tenseness leaving my shoulders. "Choco? Earthbread to Choco, you there?"

He looked over quickly, the taller making eye contact with me. His gaze is blocked by his long hair falling in his face, but the tenseness of the air stopped me from making a comment. "Yes, licorice cookie?" He seemed unimpressed, voice flat with formality.

"Are-" I froze up. What if this is a trick? To see if I'm weak too? No, I can't ask- but he needs something, right??

He watched me closely, looming. I try to mentally get myself out of this situation, playing a game of tug o' war with my options. As he turned away, I panicked. This isn't what I wanted! I just wanted to make sure-

"Are you okay?!" I blurt out, a little too fast. I see him recoil a bit, eyes wide. "Am I... okay? Licorice, what the hell? Where's this coming from?" he leans closer, voice weak. His eyes are dull as they look into mine, searching. His stare always did look... judge-y. I am frozen in place, voice caught in my thought. "I-I heard you yelling, and then everything went quiet. I thought you died or something, asshole."

He sighed, shoulders slumping. "What you saw didn't happen, understand?" I nod quickly. "I didn't see anything. But are you..?" Dark Choco cookie glared at me and I gulped. Slowly I back away. "Okay, okay, I'll let you wallow in your sorrows or whatever."

I close the door softly, not wanting to disturb him any more than I already have.

I'll pretend I didn't hear the almost silent sob of my colleague as I left too.
