"hello...? jack?" cinnia spoke through the phone.
jack sighed, "what's the matter?"

"i promise i won't waste your time again," she began, "but i just want to know something."
"what do you want to know?" jack asked her.

"what did i do wrong, jack? you've never told me," she spoke, fighting to hold back her own tears.

he sighed once again, "this is not a good time, cinnia."

"but jack - when is the time ever going to be good or right? just tell me what i did wrong - for my own sake," she pleaded.

jack rubbed his forehead in distress. he wants nothing more than to hang up the phone.

"i'll talk to you later, cinn-"
"no, jack. we're talking right now," she firmly stated, "why is it so difficult for you to tell me?"

"you didn't do anything wrong, cinnia," jack admitted.

cinnia let out a rather inaudible gasp. her hand flew over her mouth in shock.
for months on end she's been under the impression that she's been the problem this whole time.
not because she convinced herself necessarily but because that's how she's been made to feel. that's how jack's made her feel.

"...then why did you end things, jack?" she asked with tears spilling out of her eyes.

jack winced at the evident sound of pain laced in her voice. he was immediately enveloped with the feeling of guilt over putting her in this predicament.

"it weren't you, yeah? it was all me," jack explained, "you didn't do anything wrong, cinnia, stop telling yourself that you did."

a small smile instantly broke out onto cinnia's face as she felt a load physically being lifted off of her shoulders.

"really?" she asked, "it wasn't me?"
"no, mate," jack replied.

"whatever it is, jack, we can work through it. wouldn't you want to make us work again?" she asked.

jack fell silent over the line.

cinnia found it difficult to conceal her beaming smile. she took this as a sign that jack's currently pondering over her words. contemplating whether or not to give their love another try.

surely he'll agree, she thought to herself.

"i would love to," jack started.

cinnia couldn't believe her ears. she gasped once again, this time a bit louder than the first time.

"jack, oh my word-"
"you didn't let me finish," jack interrupted her.

"sorry, proceed," she smiled.

"i would love to give us another try, cinnia... but i just can't. i'm not there anymore," jack said.

cinnia heard pieces of her own heart hitting the walls of her lungs.

"i'm sorry, cinnia- i just can't do it again," jack said.

"jack..." she cried, now desperate to hear some answers, "what did you do, jack?"

jack shook his head before letting out yet another sigh, "take care, cin."

jack hung up the phone.
