Synopsis:
Draken smiled. "Let's do this again next year."
Mikey nodded. He held out his pinky fingers into the air as he grinned. "It's a promise then."
A/N: Just to let you guys know, this fic sets during the first timeline, which is the original one. Therefore Takemichi never actually met them and of course, ya'll know what happen at that point.

"Mikey, how much further are we walking?" Draken grumbled. He had to make sure the food they bought from the festival were still in good condition as they walked past the seemingly never ending bushes and trees. He was hoping that wherever Mikey was taking them, it better be worth all this trouble.
Draken struggled to keep up due to their difference in size. While Mikey can swiftly maneuver between all the low branches due to his less than average stature, Draken had to push past it while carrying a few plastics in his hands. It did help him a little that Mikey was gracious enough to point out any stones or branches blocking the way so he wouldn't fall, or probably the other was just trying to protect his food. Who knows.
"Just a little bit more, Kenchin." Mikey turned back and cheekily smiled as he watched him struggle. Draken sighed, cursing his decisions to follow him instead of fighting his way to sit by the riverside while waiting for the fireworks to begin. That way, he wouldn't have gone through all this trouble. However, Mikey insisted him to come along and Draken being the loyal friend he is, he went along with it.
Well, he always went along with Mikey anyway.
The road they're walking was small and narrow so they had to give up their bikes at the parking lot near the shrine. They've been walking for quite a while. Also, is it just him or the path's getting quite steep? Are they climbing?
Mikey did not offer any explanation and constantly moved forward, leaving Draken alone with questions. Instead, Mikey assured him that it's fine, that he can trust him for it. Of course, Draken trusted Mikey so he followed the other without words.
When he thought the journey would never end, the bushes finally cleared to reveal a small clearing.
"We're here." Mikey declared, looking back at his friend as he waves his arm to emphasize his point.
Draken looked around, there's nothing really special about this place. He moved forward. There was a cliff ahead of him with safety railing on it. He looked down and saw rows of houses below. Further down the road is the festival they've gone to. He could still see the vibrant lights and silhouettes of people already waiting by the riverside. The noises are loud. He can still hear the music blaring and both hawkers and customers alike were going about their business.
Draken stared at it in awe. He could see everything from up here.
"We can get the best views here." Mikey said calmly as he joined Draken by the railings. "And it's just the two of us here." He reached out for the plastic bags and pulled a choco banana he bought earlier.
"This is actually cool. How did you even find this place?" The view was amazing. Draken had to admit, the hike and walk was actually worth it.
Draken was met with silence. Mikey munched his food as he looked ahead, eyes unfocused as he looked far beyond what Draken could see. A longing look plastered across his face as he recalled a memory he once locked away. He finally answered. "Shinichiro's the one who brought me here before, on a festival day just like this one few years back."
Mikey's eyes trailed into the distance, looking towards the clear night sky, recalling back his memories of his beloved brother. "Just like you, I grumbled a lot while walking here. The road's uneven, not to mention we had to climb all the way up here. But..."
