I laid in bed and stared at my phone while texting Avery. It's been a few months since I've spoken to her. I was checking in to see how's she's doing at her internship. She told me how much she loves it and how well it's going. I ended up trying to have her caught up on what happened while I was doing my internship at The Morreti Towers. She told me that she heard what happened to Mr. Moretti since it was plastered all over the media and every single cover of the news paper.
"Hey Mia," said my father as he walked in, interrupting. He took a seat on my bed. "How's Mateo? Did you speak to him?" he asked. I nodded. "He actually came in today," I added. "I see," he said. "I wanted to talk to you about your internship, preferably your safety," he continued. I sat up. "Dad, you know I'm fine. I have Cardo with me.. And Dante and Nico. My Dad widened his eyes. "How did you know that Dante and Nico were there?" he asked, surprised.
I laughed. "Dad, you always taught me to check my surroundings, and I spotted those two at the hot dog stand wearing those ridiculous hats and shades," I said. "Well, they were just trying to keep you safe. My men do an excellent job of being incognito. It wasn't like they were trying to hide from an enemy anyway. They were trying to make sure to be seen by anyone and everyone, but you," he said as he chuckled.
"But, I think you should quit the Moretti Towers Intern.." he continued. I got up abruptly from my bed. "What?! No! Dad, I love it there! Why???" I said as I questioned him. "Well bella, it just isn't safe there now. Lorenzo was kidnapped and killed. There's definitely going to be a war going on and I'm just trying to keep you safe," he said.
I was speechless. I looked around and my eyes were tearing up. I looked back at my father. "Dad you trained me and Carlos our whole entire lives to defend ourselves when we came across danger, I should be able to stay there. Besides, Dante, Nico and Cardo are with me!" I argued. "Well Dante, Nico and Cardo are my best men, but they do also have other important duties they need to fulfill," he said.
"What about Carlos? You're preparing him to be next in line to becoming Capo, right? What makes me so different?" I complained. He sighed. "It's just that you're my little girl and I wouldn't want anything to happen to you. Your brother is capable of handling himself—" he said. "—Dad, we're literally twins! The same age! And I'm also capable of handling myself!" I yelled, interrupting him.
I angrily walked passed him and out my room. Grabbing my phone, bag, and jacket. I went into his office and grabbed one of his car keys. Quickly made my way down the hall, towards the stairs. "Mia where are you going?!" he yelled behind me from top of the stairs. I slammed the front door behind me. Unlocking my car, I hopped in. I quickly put the key in the ignition and stepped on the gas, leaving the driveway. Tires gripped the asphalt, as dust and dirt appeared in smoke from behind me as I left the premises.
I could see my Mom, Cardo and Dad at the front door in my rear view disappearing in the distance.

I looked at husband. "What happened Luca?" I asked him in a concerned tone. "I told her she should quit her internship at Moretti Towers, Esme," he said. I slapped Luca behind his head. "Ow! The fuck Esme—!" he exclaimed, rubbing the back of his head. We could hear Cardo trying not to laugh. Luca looked at him. "Why did you tell her that?" I asked. "Because Emse, she's my fucking child. I don't want anything to happen to her!" he argued.
"Luca, you trained her to look after herself if she ever ended up in a dire situation. You don't even let her breathe for fuck sake! You're going to lose her if you keep suffocating her," I sternly said to him. I walked back inside the mansion.
"You know, Esme is right Luca. You should learn to trust Mia. She's 22 years old. She ain't a baby anymore," said Cardo.

I drove down the street lit roads. Trying not to think about what happened. He wants me to quit Moretti Towers? Even if I quit, where am I going to find another internship replacement? Moretti Towers is one of the best places to work at. I continued driving and found myself across from Moretti Towers. Even my heart ends up here. I parked and turned off my car and head lights.
I started thinking about what Mateo had told me. Suddenly, I became distracted by dark figures infront of The Moretti Towers. I sunk down in my seat, just enough not to be seen, but enough to still peak and see what was going on. What the hell were these people doing here? I looked at the time and seen it was 10:42pm.
I was startled by the sound of shattered glass and alarms going off. The figures quickly entered into the building. I had to think. "Fuck!" I exclaimed. I looked around in the car. My father usually has a gun hidden somewhere. I checked the glove compartment, scattering papers everywhere. Pulling down the visor and retracting it back up. "Shit, shit, shit!" I panicked. With quick thinking, I reached my arm over to the back, checking under the passengers side seat.
I felt the cold metal and pulled it out from underneath. "Bingo," I said. I checked for bullets. Sliding back the cartridge in, removing the safety and cocking back the gun. I got out the car and stealthily made my way over to the building. I knew I had to be quick before the cops arrived.
