Everyone looked at my father. "I've heard about this Emerald Butterfly necklace. It's worth around 15 million dollars," he said. "Actually, it's worth 23 million," corrected Mateo. Everyone's attention was now focused on Mateo. My eyes widened. "23 MILLION? Just for a necklace?" I asked, surprised. "No, no. It's not just any necklace. Emeralds were discovered in the 1700s. That first piece of Emerald that was discovered, was put into the necklace," said Dom.

"Reroute the shipment to my dock," said Dad. Everyone looked at him. "You sure Luca?" asked Mateo. He nodded. "If that's what they're really after, it will be safe at my warehouse," he suggested. The rest agreed. "As for you Mia, you'll stay home this week. I'll talk to your professor to find you a new placement for your internship," suggested Dad. "What? Seriously?!" I argued. He's bringing this shit up again? And infront of Mateo?

"Luca—" called out Mateo. "Honestly Mateo, she's just not safe there. Look what happened," he pointed out. "Well yeah! That's because WE argued about this and I just so happened to be there at the wrong time," I argued. "Luca, Mia is an amazing intern. If it makes you feel any better, I'll have men posted all over the building and in the office during the day," suggested Mateo.

My Dad paused. "I don't know Mateo,"  he hesitated. I looked at the both of them with pleading eyes. Mateo looked at me and then back at him. "Wh- what if I protected Mia? Not only will my men be around throughout the day, but I'll be with her. I'll be with her every single moment. From the time she starts her shift to when she goes home? I'll be happy to pick her up and drop her off," suggested Mateo.

I was shocked. He was willing to do all that for me? I tried not to make my expression look so obvious."Fine, but make sure you check in with me during your breaks. Okay?" said Dad. "Deal," both Mateo and I said at the same time. We looked at each other and I looked down trying not to blush. "Mia, I'm giving you three weeks off. I want you to recover properly before heading back into the office," ordered Mateo. I nodded.

Sitting back at my desk, I scrolled through the daily news articles online. I came across a few from the charity ball. There were photos of Mia and I. She looked stunning in that beautiful dress. Not that she isn't a gorgeous woman everyday, because she truly is. I closed my eyes and remembered seeing her pretty smile every morning at the office. The smell of her Chanel perfume lingering around the room. God, I miss her and that scent of hers.

I've become really fond of her. My thoughts were disturbed by a knock on my office door. It was Nina. When will this fucking woman give me a break. She's annoying as hell. "Hey babe," she said, waltzing in. I quickly closed the tabs on my desktop. "What do you want Nina?" I asked as I sighed. "Oh nothing really. I see you got rid of that little rat Mia," she said as she smirked. "Haven't seen her in two weeks," she continued.

"For fuck sakes Nina, she was shot. I didn't fire her, I just gave her some time off to recover," I stated. Nina looked offended. "You're telling me that after that's happened, you still didn't fire her??" questioned Nina. I shook my head. "Pretty much," I replied. "I still don't understand what she was doing there that night when the Towers got broken into," said Nina as she went around touching my things in my office.

I rolled my eyes. "If you're not here to discuss business affairs, then I suggest you leave," I told her sternly. She was taken back. "What happened to you Mattyboo? What happened to us?" she said as she caressed my face. I pushed her hand away. She scowled. "Ever since she came along, you've been different Mateo Angelo Moretti," she whined. Not the middle name. Nina stormed out the door.

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. Not long after, I was distracted by another knock. "Nina, leave me—" I demanded. Frustrated and not taking my eyes away from my computer. "—I didn't know Nina was here," said a familiar voice, interrupting me. I looked up and it was Mia. She smiled and came into my room on her crutches.

"Mia, what are you doing here?" I said. Getting up abruptly and helping her sit on the chair infront my desk. "I came here to say thank you," she said. "For what?" I asked. "Well— if it wasn't for you, I probably would've bleed to death," she giggled. I thought for a moment. "Are you free tonight?" I quickly asked.

"Uh, yeah I am. Why ask?" she asked. "How about I take you out to dinner? It's the least I could do. That would be my biggest 'thank you'.. From you," I chuckled. She tucked her hair behind her ear. "Sure I'd love to," she agreed as she smiled.

"I really don't think this is a good idea Mia," said Dad, pacing in my room. My mom sat on the bed while I sat infront of the vanity mirror doing my last touches to my makeup. "It'll be fine Luca. Mia will be with Mateo. I'm sure he'll have his men there," said my
Mom as she looked at me through the mirror. "Oh— yeah, for sure. His men will be there, but from a distance," reassuring them.

My Dad propped his chin between his finger and thumb. "MAKE SURE, call me as soon as you get there. Okay?" he said. I turned around and looked at him, nodding my head. "I'll be fine, I promise Dad," I said. About an hour later, Mateo arrived and took me to his car. We drove off into the night. Stars lit the sky. "Where are we going?" I asked.

He looked at me and smirked. "You'll see.."
