Description:
"The Yiling Laozu is dead"
Lan Wangji froze at the words, his heart beating a million miles per hour. He hoped the words were false. He prayed they were just rumours. But, when his brother came to the Jingshi and told him the same thing, he knew. He knew that the words spreading around Cloud Recesses, were true.
(the song lyrics are what I imagine Lan Zhan feeling and doing when he was grieving for Wei Ying)☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️
"Wangji?" Lan Xichen's soft voice rang out through the Jingshi, after he had opened the doors and stepped inside. The man was sat on the floor, neatly, as he wrote on paper with a brush dipped in silky black ink. Hearing his brother's voice, he looked up and placed the brush down in the holder.
"Zewu-Jun." Lan Wangji bowed towards his brother once he had risen to his feet. He didn't ask why the other was in his premises, he knew that his brother would explain that anyway.
"Wangji, come sit with me." Xichen walked over towards Lan Zhan's bed, having a seat and patted the space next to him. Any normal person wouldn't be able to see, but because Xichen was his family, he could see the worry that was subtly shown on his face.
"What is it?" Lan Zhan questioned after he had taken a seat where Xichen had patted, a bit further away though. Xichen never came to his living space like this before, it was unusual and concerning. Lan Wangji did not like the feeling nor the sad aura his brother exuded.
"I come with sad news..." Xichen started and already Lan Wangi was dreading the next words that would drop from his lips. He had already heard the heart destroying words that were being said throughout Cloud Recesses, he just hoped this wasn't linked to them. His hope instantly vanished and was replaced by a tidal wave of despair when Xichen carried on, "Wei Wuxian is dead."
That was all it took for Lan Zhan's heart to completely shatter, his mind going blank. He couldn't believe it. He refused to believe it.
"You're lying. Wei Ying wouldn't die so easily." Lan Wangji knew the rules about lying, but he wouldn't believe that the strong Wei Ying he knew, had died.
"Wangji-"
"No. He can't be dead. He wouldn't let himself die so quickly, so...so effortlessly. Wei Ying wouldn't die without a fight. He just..." Lan Zhan stopped speaking when he saw the regret in his brother's eyes. Wei Ying really was gone. Wei Ying was dead. His love was dead.
"Leave." Lan Zhan spoke in a quiet voice, filled with every bad emotion running through his words. Xichen was surprised at the bluntness and forcefulness of his didi's tone.
"Wangji..." Xichen tried to talk but was met with a stern glare. Although, behind that glare, he could see tears forming, clouding the golden orbs.
"Go away!" Lan Wangji had shouted for the first time to his brother, not thinking about it and not regretting it either. The other's eyes widened, but immediately softened, knowing that his brother needed time alone. He knew the news of Wei Ying passing was going to affect him more than anyone else, even more than someone like Jiang Cheng.
"As you wish, dear brother. If you need me, you know where to find me. Don't forget to eat and sleep." with those final loving words, Xichen left the Jingshi.
As soon as those doors slid to a close, Lan Zhan let his tears fall. They ran down his cheek like a never ending river, full of desperation and despair. Wei Ying was not coming back. He was never coming back again. Lan Wangji was never going to see the handsome, yet beautiful, face ever again.
