Chapter 8: Not Ok

•)Alex's POV(•

After driving for about 4 hours with these idiots, we finally reached civilization that I recognized. I turned onto the street that my Aunt lives on and stopped right out front.

"Bye Al," Gavin chirped from the back.

"Bye Gavin," I chuckled. I barely knew him but it was almost like we were close friends already. I heard Logan clear his throat from the passengers seat and I noticed he seemed very bothered.

"Well? Are you going to get out of the car or what?" He shot me a bored look, obviously wanting me to leave.

I shot back a snarky face as I slammed the car door shut. I jogged up to the front doorstep as I heard them pull away and leave. I unlocked the door and pushed it open. As soon as I entered, I was hit by the cool breeze of air conditioning. Thank god!

I sighed in content as I yelled out for my aunt. "Lucy! I'm so sorry but I can explain! Where are yo-" I abruptly ended my sentence as I saw a nurse walk into the room. Wait, why is there a nurse in Lucy's house?

"Excuse me ma'am, but who are you?" The woman asked me politely. I raised my eyebrows at her.

"Who am I? I live here, who are you?" I narrowed my eyes at her. "And where is my aunt?"

"Oh dear, you are Alex aren't you. She told me to expect you." She quickly grabbed my wrist and led me up some stairs and into another room.

"What the hell! Who are you?" I pulled my arm out of her grasp, demanding answers. I crossed my arms and decided not to move until she filled me in on what the heck was happening. For all I know, she could be a serial killer dressed in a very legit nurse's outfit!

"Alright, my name is Silvia and I am your aunt's stay in nurse. She didn't need me until yesterday when the sickness started getting drastically worse." She explained. Sickness?

"What sickness? She doesn't have a sickness," I exclaimed. There's no way. How could she have gotten sick overnight?

"Oh my, she didn't tell you did she?" The nurse gave me a sympathetic look, and gently placed her hand on my arm in comfort.

"Didn't tell me what?" I shook off her arm, I didn't need comfort because she was lying. What sickness could be so bad that she'd need a stay in nurse. And how did she get it while I was gone? What the hell could she have been hiding from me? That she was sick? That isn't a big deal! Lucy told me everything, she was the closest thing I had to a mother.

My head started spinning, thousands of questions clouding my mind. I've always defaulted to thinking the worst of situations. Everything's bad always happened to me, so you can't blame me for obsessing over her crazy words.

"Sweetheart, your aunt is diagnosed with acute leukemia." The nurse, Silvia, said in a tone filled with sadness.

I gasped as it seemed like the world just stopped. I felt tears well in my eyes as the back of my throat took on a burning sensation, signaling that I was about to cry.

"Y-You're lying, my aunt does not have cancer." My voice wobbled along with my jaw. I'm going to throw up. Then faint.

I refused to believe it. I grew up with my aunt Lucy. I visited her every summer and we were extremely close. I loved her like a best friend and a mother. No. She can not have a deadly disease. It's not possible.
