My biggest fear in life is having to choose between my two best friends. If I choose, one could loose everything, if I choose the other, I'd loose a life long friend. Both mean more to me then anything and I'd rather loose myself then loose either of them.
✮.✯*✮.✯* Shiver *✯.✮*✯.✮Gently flicking my tail, I watched on calmly while Thomas stood up to leave the room. Shimmer was sleeping peacefully although she was still trembling slightly but I'd hoped that would fade given time. Thomas had to talk with Alyssa, Amy and Nick outside so I would stay here keeping a close eye on Shimmer as usual. There was obviously a lot of trauma pent up in such a small little girl.
I made myself comfortable and laid down by my trainer's side, closing my eyes for a moment before opening them and watching Shimmer carefully, keeping on alert as normal.
The door creaked open, my fur bristled as I turned to see who had entered, tensing up for a moment but relaxed and let my fur down when I saw it was only Dusk, Thomas's Umbreon and one of my closest friends.
He looked up at me and cocked his head to the side. ~Hey Shiver.~
I gave him a blank look. ~You shouldn't be here.~
~Come on Shiv, I know it's you so drop it. Why are you acting so...different?~ Dusk looked up at me sadly. ~It's not like you to be this guarded.~
I looked away, trying to rid myself of the guilty feeling that knotted my stomach. ~I can't say, you wouldn't understand.~ I couldn't trust him enough to say anything.
Dusk jumped up on the end of Shimmers bed and I shot him a warning look, not trusting anyone near the injured child. ~No Shiv, you don't understand. You disappear for nine months, reappear with a girl who we don't even know if she's really your trainer only to disappear for another month five days later. Do you know how much I missed you? I thought you were dead.~ His ears drooped, looking very much hurt.
Sitting up straight, I positioned myself between Shimmer and Dusk as I sighed. ~Dusk, I'm sorry. I really am but until I'm sure I can't risk telling you anything.~
The Umbreon looked very much frustrated with me. ~But why? Is Shimmer Alice?~
I turned slightly, looking at Shimmer. ~I made a promise to her, I'm going to keep it.~
Dusk frowned. ~But why can't you tell me? Don't you trust me?~
Sighing softly, I shook my head. ~I don't know who I can trust right now, but until I'm sure I need to keep Shimmer safe. I need to protect her until...~ I drifted off and shook my head again. ~Just drop it.~
~No I won't just drop it.~ Dusk hissed, his tone setting of the protective alarm in my head that made me prepare to defend Shimmer. ~Do you know torturous it was for me not knowing of I'd ever see you again!?~
I glared at him, his words grating against my already agitated nerves as I silently told him to shut up. ~I'm warning you, drop this right now Dusk. Go away and leave us alone, Shimmer needs to rest and you're most likely going to wake her up and trust me, do that and I will skin you alive. So shut the distortion-world up about things being torturous because trust me, you have no idea. Just shut your snout, turn around and leave.~
Dusk's face fell. ~Shiv...~
~Now.~ I hissed, subconsciously making my fur spike and radiate cold.
Hanging his head, Dusk took a step back. ~Okay Shiver...~ he jumped off the bed, glancing at me once more before he left, much to my relief.
I dropped down and curled up into a ball, burying my head in my paws. ~I'm sorry Dusk, but... I made a promise and I'm going to do my best to keep it.~ I closed my eyes for a moment, hearing my trainers voice whispering to me, begging me to keep my promise. It was the last time I was sure who my trainer really was.
