Everyone says they understand when they know nothing at all. They don't understand the pain or fear in losing someone right in front of you. They say they understand but they don't.
✮.✯*✮.✯*🌟*✯.✮*✯.✮A soft knock on the door caught my attention as Amy walked into the room, smiling when she saw me awake. "Thomas said you've been getting better, I just came to check to see myself."
The green hair trainer walked over to the bed, sitting on the edge. She felt my forehead and her smile brightened. "Your fever's gone." She beamed, tucking a lock of pink tipped hair behind her ear.
I gave a small smile back. I wasn't feelings as bad as a few days ago, but I wasn't feelingk much stronger. Weakness controlled almost every move I made as I could still barely lift my arm to pat Shiver or speak a word, even eating on my own was difficult.
"Are you feeling any better?" She questioned, gently wiping my white hair from my face.
Giving a small nod in reply, I turned to Shiver for a moment, watching my Gaceon watching me.
"Any stronger?" Amy continued to press.
I shook my head. "No, I still feel very weak."
Concern flickered through Amy's eyes but she said nothing of it. "Still sore?"
Another nod.
After a moment, Amy sighed. "Well at least you're getting better. Can I see you wrists, the bandages need to be changed."
Nodding my head, I lifted up my right hand to her for her to check. Over the past week Amy had been taking care of my injuries and health while Thomas and the others watched me though I saw the most of Thomas when I was awake. Alyssa was there as well but Nick frightened me too much, he had wanted to take Shiver away from me and I was still really scared he would. Thomas had explained that Nick was sorry about what he said but I just couldn't stop myself from being scared.
Amy examined my wrist. "These are getting better to." She lightly ran her finger over the remaining mark left from the cuffs, other than a slight burning feeling where the actual cuts were but it didn't hurt all that much, which is a lot better compared to when Amy first had to bandage them up as any contact in the area hurt badly and caused me to squeal in pain each time Amy had to rebandage them. "And they didn't get infected either." She smiled as she pulled a small pot of cream off the bedside table which she'd been using to keep the cuts clean.
Watching as Amy dipped her fingers in the goopy orange cream, scooping out a generous amount before gently rubbing it over the area, I prepared myself for whatever pain would come. At first, I winced slight but after that the soothing effect if the cream took place and I was able to relax. I let out a small sigh and closed my eyes while Amy worked on my wrists.
"Are you alright?" Amy asked softly while wrapping my wrist back up.
I gave a small nod, opening my eyes again. "I was just thinking; how did you find me?"
Amy hesitated, setting my hand down on my torso. "It's complicated..." She sighed and signalled me to show her my other wrist.
Holding up my other hand, I gave a confused look. Amy accepted it and started to unwrap it. "How's it complicated?" I asked.
"Well..." Amy bit her lip. "We'll tell you later but for now what you really need to do is rest, relax and recover."
"But I want to know now." I said quietly, looking up at Amy pleadingly, my blue eye trying to catch her green ones. "Everyone keeps hiding things from me... and it's making me feel like I'm really not wanted here, like no one wants me and I'm being a burden by staying." This was more than I'd spoken in days and I was starting to feel drowsy but I fought it to stay awake so I could Amy's answer.
Amy looked into my eyes, I could see the uncertainty they held. I could also see protectiveness and... sadness? "Shimmer, you're wanted here. You really are, we want to keep you safe and..." She hesitated as if she wasn't going to say anymore but sighed and gave in when she looked into my eyes. "There is someone we know who could possibly know who you were, who you are. She said she could tell us what happened to Alice but... only if we rescued you first. Which we were trying to do anyway... but then Tyson probably would have been throwing us off before our friend told us of his betrayal."
"Can we ask your friend now? About Alice and who I might be?" I asked hopefully, I still haven't mentioned my vision but at this point, I wasn't even sure is it was real.
Amy shook her head. "I'm sorry Shimmer, you're still not strong enough to be worrying about that." She explained softly, setting my other hand down.
Feeling the hope of finding out my real identity fade, I decided to try changing the questions I was asking. "But why did you need to rescue me first?"
Setting aside the medical equipment, Amy shrugged. "As I said, you're our friend now and we were looking for you anyway."
She's avoiding my questions, I thought to myself, hiding my irritation with sadness. "Who is your friend?"
Smiling slightly, Amy discarded my old bandages in the bin beside my bed, making a crackling would as they hit to plastic bag inside. "You've met her briefly; the friend is Dream."
"Dream?" I repeated remembering when she visited my own dream.
Amy nodded. "We've suspected she knew what happened to Alice for a while but up until last month she was growing weaker and weaker as Alice stayed missing for longer. The same day you showed up she was at her weakest but after that, while she was healing in her orb and while you were..." Amy cut herself off and hesitated, biting her lip as she winced slightly before she continued to speak. "She turned up the day before we rescued you with the other Pixies announcing she knew exactly what had happen to Alice, and of Tyson's betrayal to us and her. Tyson fled right after that and when we asked Dream what had happened to Alice she said she would not say until you were safely away from Tyson."
I flinched slightly and gripped the sheet tightly as tears sprung to my eyes. I quickly squeezed them shut to avoid Amy seeing and to try and rid my mind of the awful images that plagued it. The memories of being suspended from my wrists in the tiny, freezing cold cell still scared me a lot.
"I'm sorry, I guess I shouldn't of said anything..." Amy said worriedly, laying down my arm next to me.
Opened my tearful eyes to look at her, I shook my head. "I-it's alright, h-he just scares me."
Amy forced a small smile. "I know he does. Tyson had always been one to attack a foe by their weakness, and I'm guessing since he knew you before he knows exactly what yours were."
I looked away. "He made me feel so weak and powerless. I-I couldn't do anything, I couldn't even move."
Amy put her hand on my shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. "We all have our weakness. I do, Alyssa does, so does Thomas and Nick. Even Tyson has something he's afraid of..." Amy said gently a I looked up into her mossy green eyes. "Having one is nothing to be ashamed about it's what you do about that determines how people will look at you for it."
"But I don't even know what made me feel like that, I just... did." I said quietly. "I couldn't do anything at all, he would hurt me if I tried."
"Well you don't have to worry about him because Tyson is never getting near you again. Alright?" Amy reassured. "Alyssa, Nick, Thomas and I are all going to keep you safe from now on."
I gave her a small nod. "Thank you Amy." I said with a small smile.
"No worries." She smiled. "Now you should get back to sleep, you like you're about to nod off at any moment."
Stifling a yawn, I nodded. "Stay with me please?" Waiting for Amy to node, I shut my eye and within a few minutes I was once more consumed by the darkness of sleep.
