The girls sat together at a table in Potions, sharing a group assignment. Lily fumbled with her knife as she chopped the daisy roots. She didn't seem to notice even when Celeste and Marlene messed up a step.
"Are you alright?" Alice asked, snapping Lily out of her trance.
"What?" she looked up, startled. "I'm fine Alice."
"She's thinking about Potter," Celeste grinned, passing Alice a chunk of clear quartz. "They were absolutely staring into each other's eyes while they were dancing."
"Oh yes-" mumbled Lily, when her trance broke. "Wait- what?"
"Lily, my dear," Marlene said, beginning to grin. "Where were you this morning?"
The red-haired girl chuckled and said hesitantly, "I was in the library. I had left one of my things there yesterday."
The class bells began to ring, signaling the end of class.
"Oh there's the bell," Lily squeaked. "See you at lunch- bye!" She scooped her things up and dashed out the door without hesitation.

Celeste hadn't spent any time with her younger sister since they had come to the school. They strolled alongside on the snowy grounds by the edge of the Black Lake. It had completely froze over now. In the distance, small groups of students skated across it.
Selene suddenly grinned and exclaimed loudly, "Let's skate!"
"What?" Celeste jerked her head up from studying the hem of her sleeve. "No! Are you mad?"
"Oh yes! C'mon Este!" Suddenly bubbling with new excitement, the younger sister began to pull Celeste towards the frozen lake.
"What would mother say?" Celeste protested, struggling to pull back.
"To hell with what mother says!" Selene retorted. "She not around to snipe and poke at us here."
Her eyes widened. "Selene," Celeste warned.
Her sister scoffed with disbelief, finally letting go. "You spoil everything! You never do that around your friends. You- you've been going to parties and doing whatever you want lately! Just because you got into Gryffindor doesn't give you a right to-"
