Ensnare: Catch in or as in a trap.

- V a l e r i o -

I lean against the wall, watching my former brother and his girlfriend wake up. Vincenzo starts freaking out, asking Emma if she's alright, to which she informs him that she's fine. I emerge from the darkness when Vincenzo says that he's going to murder me.

"Let us out right now, or I'll beat the sense out of you! Oh wait, IT'S ALREADY GONE!" he spits, grabbing Emma's arm.

"Now, now, you're not in a place to be throwing threats at me, Vincenzo," I state, walking around the room.

He growls and tightens his grip on Emma's arm as I get closer to them.

"Always protecting your family, right?" I chuckle at his foolishness, "Well, let me tell you something about family. They will do anything to get what they want, even if it means betraying others-"

"You know nothing about family," Vincenzo interrupts me.

His eyes wander around the room, looking for any form of escape. I feel the corners of my mouth rise, forming a smirk.

"There's no way to get out; I checked myself," I state simply, before leaving the room and locking the door behind myself.

I lean against the wall, listening to their conversation.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Vincenzo asks, worry evident in his voice.

I can picture Emma waving him off, if her wrists and feet weren't bound.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I hear a slight waver in her voice, and so does Vincenzo.

"No, you're not. We need to get out of here. Do you see any form of escape?"

I look through the crack of the door to see Emma shaking her head. I sigh. I wish I could have a relationship like that. But, I can't. Work, work, work. It's all I ever do. It's all I ever focus on. It's all my life is about. It's the whole reason I live. Work.

A voice behind me distracts me from my thoughts.

"Valerio, are you ready?" Pandora asks, grabbing my arm.

I quickly pull it out of her grasp, which she seems to be unaffected by.

"Chop, chop, then! We don't have all day!" her high-pitched voice makes me cringe.

She turns around and walks away, but not before making sure that I knew to hurry up.

I don't even know why we're doing this. I already told them everything about the Italian Mafia, and I was the Don, I should know.

As I stand in front of hundreds of people, I suddenly feel nervous. Don't get me wrong, I've talked in front of more than quadruple the amount of people in this room, but I used to try and kill these people. I, and the Mafia I used to be with, have seriously injured some of the people here, and killed their family and friends.

They all look at me with such hatred.

I can't stop staring at one person in the back. Both of his arms and legs are gone, and he's in a wheelchair that he can't even operate. I remember doing that to him. I remember leading him into a trap. The plan was originally to tackle them head on, but when that didn't work, I had to lure their leader into a mine explosion and kill him. Of course, it didn't work. I remember his screams as people came running to him. I shot every last one of them. Every last one of them except him. I left him to bleed to death. He deserved it, after all, but someone must've found him. He's lucky I'm on their team now. Or he'd be dead.

Pandora comes up onstage, stealing me from my thoughts once again. She smiles at me, before starting her speech about how I've transformed from their enemy to their leader. Wait, what? I'm meant to help lead, not be the full-blown leader. Oh, this is all going to go down the toilet.

I hear boo's in the crowd as I step up to the podium, with Pandora silently hushing them from behind me.

After I gave my speech, I start walking back to my room, before I got distracted by voices.

"NO! Shut up, Michael. Valerio doesn't suspect a thing," Pandora says.

"Is the plan still going on, or have you fallen in love with him, like his stupid brother fell in love with that other girl?" Another voice, who I'm assuming is Michael, responds.

"Yes, yes, the plan is the same. No, I haven't fallen in love with him; I'm not that stupid. It would blow our cover," Pandora snorts.

Vincenzo was right.

He always is.

But, why do I feel hurt that I got betrayed, once again?
