Covenant Holy City, High Charity, Ninth Age of Reclamation

An artificial entity rivaling the size of planets hovered in the dead of space. The largest Covenant Armada in the existing universe had arrived at the sight of Installation 04, Halo. . .

Thel 'Vadamee: There was only one ship. . .

An Elite General, his armor glistening gold, stood in the court of the high council. Before him were two of the Covenant Holy Leaders, one present only via hologram. . .

Regret: One. . . Are you sure?

Thel 'Vadamee: Yes. They called it. . . The Pillar of Autumn.

Mercy: Why was it not destroyed with the rest of their fleet?!

Thel 'Vadamee: It fled. As we set fire to their planet, but I followed with all the ships at my command.

Regret: . . . When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by its majesty?

Thel 'Vadamee: Blinded,

Regret: Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?

Thel 'Vadamee: No.

Regret: Yet the humans were able to evade your ships, land on the Sacred Ring, and desecrate it with their filthy footsteps!

Thel 'Vadamee: Noble Hierarchs, surely you understand that once the parasite attacked-

The Council around them began to whisper and converse frustratedly, angrily as their volume rose.

Mercy: *bangs fist on chair* There will be order in this Council!

The center Prophet raised his hand, the room quieting. . .

Truth: You were right to focus your attention on the Flood. But these Demon, this "Master Chief and his Nobles. . ."

Thel 'Vadamee: By the time I learned the Demon's intent, there was nothing I could do.

The councilors arose, nearly yelling in rage at such a claim, Sangheili members whispering as the Chieftain of the Brute species only smirked.

Regret: *whispers* Noble Prophet of Truth, this has gone on long enough. Make an example of this bungler. The Council demands it.

Once again, Truth raised his hand and silenced all.

Truth: You are one of our most treasured instruments. Long have you led your fleet with honor and distinction. But your inability to safeguard Halo. . . was a colossal failure.

Councilor: Nay, it was heresy!

The General glared back and forth at the Covenant species as they all almost cheered in agreement. . .

Thel 'Vadamee: I will continue my campaign against the humans. . .

Truth: No. . . You will not.

He sent a glance to the chieftain, who in turn barked to his Brutes. As they moved up to grab the Elite, they both flinched at the General's intense and piercing eyes. . . Thel walked through the line of Honor Guards, the Brutes escorting him out. . .

Truth: Soon the Great Journey shall begin. . . But when it does, the weight of your heresy will stay your feet. . . And you shall be left behind.
