"Good morning Mr Gin." The girl spoke softly, her voice was only a few notches above a whisper. Quiet yet polite nonetheless, she set a bunch of packages that she had just collected from the local post office down on the counter

"Good morning Char," The man said, slight crinkles moving with the curve of his lips. Something about his smile was natural yet unnatural at the same time. "Did you have any trouble getting the delivery?"

"No, it was okay," Charlotte said. She knew it wasn't a good idea to give her full name due to the fact that it sounded Western so she cut it short. "Just that people were staring at me when I said that I was there for you."

"Oh?"

"They told me that if I was kidnapped and kept against my will, to nod my head three times."

The look on Gin's face made Charlotte want to laugh a little. He didn't grace her an answer, but the smile on his face and the roll of his eyes spoke volumes.

Gin was a fun person to be around — he was kind, and he had allowed Charlotte to stay with him on such short notice. Charlotte didn't understand the look that the man driving the ox-cart had given him, a look of worry as if he would collapse at any second.

He had looked at Charlotte with reluctance and hesitance as if he didn't know what would happen to Gin if he had left her with him.

"Gin, open up!" Sasaki knocked on the door, it was midday leaning towards mid-afternoon. The place seemed to be a pharmacy, Charlotte noted. The man who had driven the ox wagon to bring her here, Sasaki, banged on the door harshly. "I know yer in there! Stop pretendin' to not be at home!"

"Ya ain't trickin' anyone!"

The door creaked open lightly, a tired eye peeking out from the gap. Without letting the poor guy react, Sasaki slammed the door wide open.

Brown hair and green eyes. The man didn't look Japanese, with his light hair and bright coloured eyes, but some of his features were soft, his origin shining through.

The eye bags under his eyes along with the way that he was still trying to adjust to the change in light suggested a state of some kind of unrest, with messy hair and deathly pale skin.

If Charlotte had to be honest, he looked like someone who had just been on his deathbed. As if he decided that decomposing wasn't worth it and decided to get up again at the sound of his door threatening to come off its hinges.

"... What is it, Sasaki-san?" Green eyes fluttered close as he leaned against the walls of his store. "What's wrong now? Did your cart break down again? How many times has your wife told you to get a new one?" A flurry of words left his mouth, only aggravating the older man more.

Sasaki withheld the urge to hit the man's forehead.

"It didn't brea— Forget it!" Sasaki sighed, frustrated. "Look, I want ya to let this kid stay with ya for a while," He nudged Charlotte forward a little. Those sharp eyes wandered a little before finally settling on her figure, she could feel his gaze piercing her.

"A kid? Did you kidnap this young child or something? I didn't know you'd fall so low," Gin said, clicking his tongue in mock disappointment.

Sasaki hissed, "I saw her on the road, lost and not knowing where she was, how she got there and how to get back to her family." Gin raised an eyebrow, "I don't know if she was kidnapped by human traffickers, or abandoned, but I'm in a rush."

"Ya should know more than anyone that the nights ain't safe 'round these areas," A flinch, "And all the other families probably don't even have room for another."
