More.

More.

The twinging pain of her battered muscles, what was once torn like paper now hardened and moulded like steel. And yet, she was relentless and undeterred in her attempts to claim victory.

Charlotte licked her lips, teeth nibbling the walls of her mouth.

More.

She craved, she wanted, she desperately tried to grasp.

Her hunger was insatiable, she needed more. This wasn't enough — it wasn't ever going to be enough. She couldn't stop — no matter how much her body begged for movement to cease, to stop from charging in for one attack only to be on the receiving end of ten.

Her viridescent eyes sharpened after each trail she could see, each sensation of her state of being was crystal clear. A gaze that held the weight of the sky chased after spots of green, yellow and peach that breached her peripheral vision.

With a bend of her knees, she was off, light as a feather despite the crushing strength of time that rested upon her shoulders.

"Sabito-san," Charlotte's voice made the boy pause in his steps. He turned slightly in her direction, as if prompting her to speak.

Continuing on, Charlotte asked the question she had been holding back from asking for the past almost-two months.

"As you probably know, Tanjirou started his boulder training around two months ago," Charlotte paused, trying to wrangle her confusion out of her voice.

"I am aware." Sabito responded briefly, clipped. And if she could see his face behind that mask, she would be able to see how his eyes narrowed slightly. "What of it?"

"Are," The blue-eyed girl paused, "are you not going to train him? Not that I mean you have to train him— I mean, of course that'd be good, but I was just wondering since— uhh," she tried to hide her wince.

Internally, she couldn't hold back a sigh. Solid proof that she needed to improve her speaking skills.

"— doesn't Tanjirou have potential? I'm just a little confused as to why you two haven't gone to him when you came to me. Hahaha..."

Sabito tsked in response, tilting his head said simply, with a voice deep and full of conviction.

"He's not ready."

"Eh?"

Charlotte could feel her brain freeze for a second.

Tanjirou? Not ready? Did she hear something wrong?

Did Sabito not guide Tanjirou from the beginning?

Granted, the only information she had of Tanjirou's training was that it took two years to complete. She didn't know the contents, the nature, the hardships, or any other specifics. Even so, she had always assumed that the red-haired boy spent the entirety of the first year or so doing as she did, learning from Urokodaki, and then immediately learning from Sabito once he moved on to the boulder test.
