Nick was preparing to head out for the evening, springing down the stairs on light feet as he pulled on his long, black coat, buttoning it up to the high collar. As he strode down the lightless hallway towards the door, he stopped in the doorway of the living room, warm, golden light spilling out onto the floor, and stuck his head inside.
Travis was sitting in the living room, on the floor with his back against the couch, absent-mindedly bouncing Abby in his lap as he stared off into the far distance.
"Are you alright?"
"No, probably not."
Tilting his head in concern, Nick strode into the living room, in unbuttoning his coat as he sat down beside Travis. "You come here, Nibblet." He sat her on his lap, securing her with an arm around her waist as she wriggled and squirmed playfully.
Suddenly, with a tired sigh, Travis leant over and laid his head on Nick's shoulder. "I think I'm just... done. It's just everything. I'm so done with it all." His expression was almost questioning, as if asking if Nick got what he meant, if he felt it too.
Nick nodded slowly. "I'll tell you what. Why don't we just... go out?" He sighed and shrugged at Travis's furrowed brow. "Let's just put Abby to bed and go out for a bit, do something else for a while. Whatever we want."
Travis thought about it, then with his head still on Nick's shoulder, he nodded, seeming content. "Okay. But can we not go to Dec's bar?" He lifted his head from Nick. "Don't tell him I said that."
"Wouldn't dream of it." Nick smiled, rising to his feet with Abby held effortlessly in one arm and offered his free hand to help Travis up. "Where do you want to go?"
Travis wrinkled his nose in thought. "Where can we get waffles at this time of the evening?"
"You want waffles?"
"No, I want whipped cream."
"Whipped cream is disgusting. I don't understand how you can eat it." Nick said as he went to take Abby back up the stairs.
"It is not!" Travis scoffed. "How would you know?"
"It tastes like powder. And can."
Shaking his head, Travis walked to the door to find his jacket, body shaking with laughter.
Frankly, I just wanted to write something cute and realised I was nearly forgetting about these two. XD Hope you enjoy!
